As some of you know I have a place out in the woods, and I need help getting it ready for matches. Any info on what to do and not do?
I would like to have pistol matches, shotgun, rifle, and 3 gun. Right now all I could probably do is natural terrain 3 gun or shotgun matches. I need help with Brush Hog, and building some side berms, and maybe some targets or show me how to build some. I have a welder and other stuff. Anyone that would want to go out there with me and see my vision and get me heading the right direction would be good. Unless this is the most stupid idea anyone could have? I might be able to get a Dozer out there one of these days, but we will see? If this ever got going I would not be in it to make any money!!! I would put every dime back into the range, and I could even document it so whoever did this with me or whoever could see where the money would go and what it went for. Like more steel, targets, props, etc. I have some stuff now like walls some barrels and other stuff I have hoarded.

Jesse once said the NRA has resources for range building and surveying. Might ask them. I have a welder, too, and could help make targets and build props. Can't really move too much dirt though, all I have for that is a shovel. Wideners usually has a great price on steel targets that lack mounts.
I think steel tubing, plate, and angle iron could be had cheaply from one of the downtown OKC suppliers. They generally sell to the public.

I have a truck, wheel barrow, and a couple of shovels. Sure, a backhoe would probably be more useful but I can help.

Be sure to talk to someone about liability insurance too. Maybe Jesse knows about that side.

Since I'm a member and officer of a range, I'll agree the first place to go is the NRA. They have the designs, and can answer the questions of liability.

Oklahoma is a good place to put in a range for liability, but don't overlook or skip it.

I'll be there for Feegee's Grand Opening Inter-State Midwest National Boomershooter Pro-Am 3 Gun Championships! But seriously, I hope you can get this project off the ground! And I would try to attend the opening match.

And Matt will be there with those pretty lips of his hehe couldn't help it!

Can't say enough about Insurance! you gotta cover your ass or one issue could cost you everything these days. Later,

Kirk

A few years back, the club where my dad and I shot had to move their sporting clays range and due to the new location they had to put up berms. They were actually able to make money on the berms because construction companies needed a place to dump their dirt when they dug a new foundation, so they would charge them to leave the dirt there and then make berms out of them. Not sure if that would work in your case; just putting that idea out there.
