had partial wrist fusion and need a new carry piece

I had a partial fusion done on my dominant hand and have about a month to go before cast/pins come off/out....my current carry piece is a Tauras pt 111 in 9mm, but it kicks like a mule, and honestly worried of damaging repairs that were just done. I'm looking for opinions from you guys as to a reasonable priced (don't really care about cal. but prefer 9 or up) pistol to purchase. I seldom conceal carry, usually just console carry, and have a small 380 for pocket if need arises. wanting something with current stopping power or better with less recoil...thanks for help/suggestions

If you're just looking for a convenient excuse to buy a new gun then I say get a full size .45 ACP that has zero polymer and is 100% steel. I.E. a 1911. The heft of the gun will absorb much of the underpowered cartridge.
 
You might look at a Springfield XD in 9mm. The XDs in 9mm should be shipping soon but you'll have to fight me for one. :D My wife carries a Ruger LC9 and I was surprised at how well that little gun handled the recoil. I found the Ruger to handle better than the little Kel-tec 9mm's and the Kimber solo. I don't know what you consider to be reasonably priced but both of those will run you less than a Glock or most decent 1911's. I'd steer clear of .40's.
 
Some of us don't have biganimal hands to absorb recoil, especially from an itty bitty polymer gun. :lol:

Most of the ranges around here rent guns; I'm sure wherever you are the same applies. Rent some full-size metal framed 9mms. The weight really helps with recoil and followup; if you're not trying to tuck a 3 pound gun in your belt it really shouldn't matter.

Before I bought my Ruger (steel/aluminum) I shot several Berettas, a few S&Ws, 9mm 1911s, and a few others I can't remember. Was most happy with trigger/recoil/ergo of the Ruger. My wife's Sig, OTOH, is lighter, and jumps about appreciably more.
 
not looking for excuse to buy...lol....who needs that?? and yes the brace helped after last procedure, but my surgeon rec. to not even use that hand for simple things such as getting up from the floor where it loads stress into the wrist. and yes it absolutely kicks like a mule, I've shot tons of other firearms, and this one is a b#%$h. my buddy even stated the same....its comparable to my shorty 12gauge with pistol grip!! I'm thinking 1911 as well, longer barrel, more weight, was just looking for outside input. price range....under a thousand would keep the boss (aka widely) happy. thanks again for all the ideas, def gonna call around about the rentals...
 
Too bad you can't find an Astra A 70 9mm like mine.....It is small, but is heavy and the recoil isn't bad........I also shoot two handed.
 
I would recommend you try a full sized M&P 9mm Smith & Wesson.

I don't talk to much about it, but, when I go to the range for "fun" shooting...I shoot my S&W 9mm.

It is more accurate than me, it is smooth and the recoil is very controlled. You also have the choice of the changable back straps...Which can be changed with the shape your hand or wrist is in.

You can buy a new one for between $550.00 and $600.00...and, you can shoot it for a year and still get $450.00 to $500.00 for it used...

Are you saying that everyone doesn't wear a size 20 ring?? :?

I truly wasn't trying to be demeaning. I guess I shoot way to many high power calibers from my revolvers that I don't notice any recoil when shooting a autoloader firing mouse calibers like 9mm & 40. I hope no one was offended.
 
I didn't post that...lol, and I'm 6`5" 252lbs...lol, so yeah I got some big old hands.if I could post the stay of what they did inside my wrist...damn its rough looking!! I would.d just rather be comfortable knowing I have full control than take a chance, and yes, my friends have compared it to a 357 snub. is wear it kicks harder than my 12gauge. I even had a gunsmith take a look at it to make sure there wasn't something I'm missing....maybe I'm just getting old and feeble.....lol

Biganimal has some impressive paws. I'd imagine that most anything short of 10mm in a Glock wouldn't give him much pause.

What are you shooting? Grain and + or +P+ has something to do with it as well. 87g defensive loads (like glasers) shouldn't have much recoil. A Federal 147g +p+ HST is going to be felt pretty solidly.

A couple of my friends have Glocks that seem to be comfortable to shoot and another has a S&W Sigma that showed little recoil when he shot it. Wether the felt recoil is light or heavy is not for me to say as after shooting 454Casull and 44mag my full power 357 mags in my 3"gp-100 feels like a toy.
Hope you find a resolution to this problem

I've got a buddy w/ a s&w 9mm shield. he said he was good with me test driving so I'm gonna do that soon as pins are out. been 8 weeks with no range time, and 2-4 more to go....having MAJOR withdraws...lol. thanks again for all the suggestions!!
 
I think the CZ 75 is one of sweetest shooting guns I have ever shoot. It's not something you can concile but it shoots great. I can bring one to the spring shoots-n-fest if you want to try it.
 
Take this for what it is worth but I am an occupational therapist, I have treated many fusions over the years espically during my time in beaufort where I would recieve marine recruits with pugle stick injuries. The most important factor at this time assuming that you had a solid surgeon will be your rehab and recovery! Stick to the program, please comply! Talk with your therapist about your hobbies, discuss grip posistion, ranges required, and coordination. Your shooting will be less impacted by felt recoil versus a crisp trigger pull. Find what fits ergonomically with a trigger that can tolerate adjustment. +2 on the CZ, I have a P-01 and although not the best trigger out of the box the ergonomics are fantastic and muzzle recoil is minimal for a compact 9mm.
