Guy arrested transferring flights in NY.

As far as I know, if this guy had not taken possession of his case and just allowed the airline to transfer it or keep it, he would have been fine, but because he took possession of the firearm, he broke the law, even though it's a dumb law.
I get the feeling that story is embellished to sell memberships, as they are very specific about the amount of money his lawyer fees were.

There has to be more to this story. I'm sorry. I live in this god forsaken state of NY and only 60 miles north of the city. This was not in any of the local papers This is the first I'm hearing of it. I'm not saying it didn't happen but the way this crappy state is they love to publish weapons arrest to try and show how gun control is working which is such BS. Also something is not sitting right about the person just being thrown into cuffs. Again I may be totally wrong but after being a police officer for the last 16 years and working for NYPD, if someone is saying they have a handgun and it's in a case there would be more investigative measures taken beside slamming the poor guy in brackets especially at a check in counter at an airport. Again I may be totally wrong and this is how it went down, but I just don't believe everything I read.

Haha, yeah I kind of figured there had to have been something omitted, otherwise I'm not entirely sure why the guy would've needed the high dollar lawyer in the first place. Still an interesting read, though, I wish it were easier to know the whole story.

I go to NY about once a quarter.
Work related and required.
Just would never think to try to bring a firearm.
It is unfortunate how the state is on this.
Had I been this guy, I fly from Orlando all the time, I would have NEVER claimed my luggage.
Besides, I have been on many flights that were delayed or rerouted, never had to claim my bags for a recheck???
But, in this scenario;
Knowing that I was going to a gun friendly state and diverted to a backwards place like NY,
I would have got on the next flight without my bags.
When I got to my destination, then I would have put it on the Airline to get my bags to me.
Worst case scenario here is that you loose the gun.

This kind of thing has happened several times.

If your connecting flight gets cancelled in a commie state and you have to get your guns, get a cab and don't look back.

If I remember correctly, there are some lower court decisions saying tough luck, 926A won't help you.
