Burk,

I just got some Slide Glide for my competition guns. When it thaws out I'll let you know how it works.

I've just been using Breakfree CLP. If you want to go with a synthetic oil get some Mobil 1. It's waaaaaayy cheaper than the "gun specific" products and in all likelihood has much better base oils.

For daily carry a wipe down with a Ballistol rag works pretty good and your leather likes it too. But stick with something heavier on the inside of the gun. At least that's what I do.

I like gun butter but I also have had good luck with Lubriplate FGL-0. It's their food grade lubricant. Just the right consistency and seems to last really good.

I've been using synthetic gear oil for a manual transmission. I picked up two quarts to change the fluid in my truck, and then was T-Boned two weeks later, before I did the exchange. It's 75W-90, and it's amazing. Autozone or O'Reilly will have it. A little goes an EXTREMELY long way. Needs to be transfered to a bottle with a capillary tube-type dispenser. I also use synthetic motor oil, and Rem Oil in a spray bottle to coat the bore a little bit.

Is Slide Glide a grease or oil?

I use CLP for just about everything but not for the rails

I wipe everything down with a silicone gun rag everytime I pit it on or take it off.

Its more like a grease, about the consistency of Vaseline (more jokes?). I only use the light and I haven't had any problems with it in cold weather. Its rated for 30+ degrees so take that as you will, haven't had a chance to test it in really cold weather. I bought the 2oz $12 tub and I'm pretty sure that's gonna last me the rest of my life.

Anybody use Slip2000 EWL? Everyone I know who uses it swears by it and I can't find a bad review online, yet. Supposedly, it's the stuff that LWRC recommends and it's mostly AR users who swear by it. Anybody use this stuff and also tried it in their Glocks / M&P?

I mix mobile 1 "0" weight with slick 50 in a 75/25 mixture
when I need to disipate water I mix it in equal parts to VM&P Naptha.

I've been running Slip 2000 for about a year and a half now but I'm almost out of it. I think I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 5W-30 after my experience with it in my FAL and 1911. Like Jesse said, at $5 per qt it's hard to beat.

I use EWL in the ARs and the pistols. Runs great. I think it may stick around a little longer than Mobil 1, but I can't really tell a difference between the two.

On the adding Slick 50, I would venture guess that because Slick 50 is teflon based it gives the oil a little better adhesion to the metal surface, therefore making an application last longer? It should also thin out the mixture a little.

I heard a mention about Castrol earlier too... Just for anyone who might want to know, Catrol does not manufactor any of their products. their entire building is probably 30,000 sq ft and is filled with office workers a few engineers and a couple scientist. They just send out specs to refineries who then produce and distribute the product. That being said, Castrol formulas are often found behind "other" labels. If the person who mentioned liking it finds another product that seems very similar in performance, its probably not a coincidence.

I didn't know Royal Purple made a gun lube... Going to have to find a bottle just because I have that stuff for my race bikes in the garage already.

I bought some of this and will give it a try. I also have some synthetic rear end oil (insert joke please) from Ford that is 95-145. I'll bet that works for the slide.
