A guy at work was asking me about clubs near us in Greenville. He has looked into the Greenville Gun Club but didn't get a warm fuzzy from them. Not surprising.

I recall a thread here a while ago about another club reasonably close, but I can't find it. Does anyone have the names of the local clubs? Google is letting me down tonight :(

John,

check out http://www.beltongunclubinc.org about 25 miles South from G'ville off Hwy. 25, near Ware Place/ 'Possum Kingdom'.. gotta luv 'The Souf' !

We met at one of the Starbucks Breakfasts. Acknowledge and appreciate your excellent efforts, opinions and updates on Firearms Legislations/ RKBA. Would be happy to have you as my guest at BGC. Shotgunning, handgun and rifle sports and tactical all available in a welcoming, safe and 'down-to-earth' atmosphere.

And the same invitation extended to all. Ya'll lemme know when.

I am also a member at Belton Gun Club. I really like it there.
Here is what they have:
Trap range (brand new)
Skeet field
5 Stand

100/200/300yd range (tiered backstops)
100yd ranges
2 50yd ranges
4~5 25yd ranges
1 Dedicated pistol range behind clubhouse

Hi Paco! (secret handshake...lol)

Besides the actual physical properties/ equipment ennumerated by Paco, if you visit the calendar and newsletter sections on the BGC website you will see scheduled competitions, events and educational programs such as steel-match, youth shotgun and airgun teams, CWP classes and Benchrest shoots.

Good folk at the BGC!

How does one go about joining over at the Belton Gun Club? Fees reasonable?

I'm over in Anderson and keep tossing back and fourth between them ore renewing my lapsed Skip J membership.

Lupinus, pm w/ contact info sent.

Basically, visit the website, take a look at the calendar and call the provided # so u can schedule a look-see at the facilities. Bring your Firearm(s) and safety protection for eyes/ears-- my experience as a guest was the guys/gals wouldn't let me leave without me shooting! (I think they were looking for a 'ringer' on the 5-stand teams). lol Attend a supper meeting as a guest (see the calendar), introduce yourself.

This will get the process started. If you like what you see, you fill out an application for a one-year probationary membership with full access to the facilities, including guest privileges, then voted into full membership, entitling you to voting privileges and sponsoring new members.

I believe the initiation fee is $200, with annual dues of $100 and a discount if you participate in workdays. Shotgun games are $5/round of 25 clays, no other range fees except some of the scheduled competitions/classes. OTW, informal range shooting on your on is freee! Good target stands are provided, you bring your own approved targets. No full-auto, no .50BMG, no tracers/incendiaries, no alcohol at any time.

Solid down-to-earth folk, get started!

Don't you hate people who answer a question with a question?

First, why join a club? If you are looking for a place to shoot occasionally without the cost of a membership there are the DNR ranges (though none in Greenville) and the commercial ranges like Allen Arms and Sharpshooters.

Also, if you want to shoot competition, many of the clubs don't require you to be a member to participate in matches. I have shot a handful of Steel Challenge matches at the Spartanburg Practical Shooting Association without being a member.

If you wanted to join a club, the question is "What type of shooting?" For example, the SPSA is great if you don't want to shoot rifles or shotguns. Make sure to find out whether the club offers what you want.

I can't help myself; gotta give the pitch. The Greenville Gun Club offers cowboy action shooting and Wild Bunch Action Shooting; our SASS chapter is called the "Greenville Gunfighters". You do not have to be a GGC member to attend or participate in a sanctioned match.

Actually, they allow full-auto now. No slide-fires though, mr "i-only-know-about-1911s" doesn't like them (he doesn't like full-auto either, but the board voted to allow it).
From what I heard, the guys at James Firearm were told they were allowed to use full auto before they joined and then after joining said person told them they couldn't so they raised a stank about it and got the board to allow it.

Not that my slidefire is going to get much use with ammo at its current price :|

LuckyStrike, PM returned. Thanks for the info :D

Because the things I see on a routine basis on DNR ranges scares the crap out of me. Least with a club there is usually either an RO or at least a process in place to get poor/unsafe behavior corrected.

Not that I have the money for the fun switch but I'd have been a might miffed as well. I guess every club needs "that guy"

Public range Safety can be an issue, as can unmonitored personalities, alcohol, waiting in lines, and paying by the rushed hour.
i'm not fond of indoor shooting lanes, much prefer the outdoors, without having to look over my shoulder into the bushes(security). i enjoy the camaraderie of membership in a shared-interest group.

i like going when i want and shooting what i want, for as long as i want, in multiple disciplines without having to change geographic locations.

I can shoot 5-stand(barely, lol), work on some handgun/rifle/shotgun tactics, and run some BR .22 RF all in the same day at the same location, easy access and security working out of my own truck, and offer the same as all above to any responsible guest.

I haven't found all of this in any way except by joining a Club. Money well spent IMO. Plus I can keep my own brass/hulls. I'm happy :D

Man you said it! I wish I had about 20 acres and a Bobcat. I'd make us a place here on the Easley/Greenville line to fill those needs. I like shooting at Knob Creek, KY on the lower range. It's bit of a drive, but I used to go yearly for a meet-up with the KTOG gang. Anyone else ever been there? 8-)

i forgot you dont have to be a member to shoot matches at SPSA. costs a couple of bucks more. you also dont get a key to the range. if its still the same i dont think other shooters would be much of a problem, not busy, except when a match is on.
