I'm new to the site and live North of the Red River. I'm learning my way on this site, so sorry if this is the wrong place to post. Do any of you guys/girls get together on weekends to shoot at a range (indoor or outdoor)? I like to shoot bolt actions as well as 1911's, AR's, AK's and 22's. Have shot at most of the ranges in OKC and further south. Like the all. Have shot often at H&H and try to go by there when I can.
Anyway, if you have them from time to time, could you post and tell me where to look.
Thanks

Most of us get together every weekend to shoot. But we do it at a match where we can kick each other's ass and talk elephant dung about each other's moms.

Speaking of, who's at Feegee's moms house tonight? I'm feeling kinda lonely!

welcome to the site.
There's a match within driving distance practically every weekend.
Many are announced on here, you'll just need to check back regularly to see if anything close to you is posted.

Is it just IDPA and USPSA events or do you set up local shoots against other members?
Thats what matches are. Shoots against other members.
If your talking about informal events for bragging rights, etc, we all do that on occasion at one time or another.
I do a Tuesday eat lunch, going to the range and shoot afterward. If your there you go shoot, if your not, see ya next week.
I have some other friends that do a monday morning meet at the range to practice shooting concealed carry pistols. They have invited me, but have not attended yet.

Have you tried Uspsa, IDPA or 3-gun?
No. But I have wanted to do one. I have watched some youtube vids and it looks fun. I've also yet to do a run and gun. Would like to see one live before I try one or both.
Raised shooting shotguns, HP rifles and of course .22's. Hunted everything you can think of since I was in single digits. Just got into pistols, a couple of years ago, and love it and have become very effective at 20 yards with my 1911, Glock and CZ. Go out every week and shoot, mostly handguns, but take my AR, AK and bolt actions about once a month at limited range (100 to 200 yards).
The reason I asked (an apparently stupid question) is I enjoy shooting with people. Particularly those with better skill sets. I, in no way, could or would try to step in a high level competition. I'm a very competitive guy that knows my limitations. I also don't want to make a complete ass of myself even though I think I could hang to a certain level.
New to this forum and hope it's not one that any question becomes target practice on the poster. My staff knows that I firmly believe that "there are no dumb questions except the one's not asked".
I'll sit back, and watch, to see how to get into threads and if I should just sit on the bench.
Some places are just not a good fit for everyone.

I'll come watch one to make sure I get the protocols correct. I'm more than safe with all my guns and consistent. Although very comfortable with my guns, I'm also a bit OCD and follow the same routine when handling any weapons or ammo.
I respect guns and the safety of those around me.
Thanks for the invite. I will watch for the next event and try to come and observe.

Brando, come to H&H on the 4th Sunday night to see (or participate) in a smaller staged USPSA style match. Trust me it won't be anything complicated and you will want to shoot!

Then come to the OKC gun club the 1st Saturday following for 7 stages of FUN! You are correct there are no stupid questions, just ask away, but coming and shooting a match is the best place to find out what questions you may have, and get answers from the very helpful folks that get together to shoot the matches.

Welcome to Boomer Shooter.

In this sport, I wouldn't be afraid to go head to head with the pros. Matter of fact, some of them show up for the occasional local match and jump right in the middle of trash talking fun while sharing tips and tricks they've learned along the way.
Come out to one of the matches and join in on the fun.

Every person that has come to simply watch the first match has said later that they should have brought their guns and Ammo to shoot.

In fact After you see guys like Burk and Feegee that have riden the short bus their entire lives shoot a match you'll know anybody can shoot a match safety and have fun doing so.

Thanks. I will.

Great. Then I'm in. I appreciate the feedback. One last stupid question then I'll just watch and learn. Where will I find the info for the 4th Sunday match? Cal's, distance, registration, fees, scoring and such.
Thanks again. I will try not to be a pest. I save that effort for my wife.

The match at H&H fee is $15 and will usually have a round count of 75-100. Some stages may have a round count of 24, so you'll want to have enough mags and ammo to get you through. Shooting distances will vary anywhere from 5 yards to 20 yards.

Any one of your handguns you mentioned could be shot at this match. You just need a holster that covers the trigger guard, mag pouches, and mags. You will see 9mm, .40, and .45 acp caliber guns being shot, some stock, some modified. Also see some high end race guns in 9mm and .38 super comp.

Don't worry about the specific divisions at the first match, just come shoot and the match director will help guide you to what division to shoot with the gear you have at sign-in. As you shoot you can visit with other shooters to learn about the divisions and their specifics.

Sign-in for H&H's 4th Sunday night match beings at 5:30pm, the range closes to the public at 6pm then we setup the stages in the bays and get started soon after that.

Hope to see you there. I'm planning to bring my 13 yr old grandson next time, it will be his first USPSA match. There are almost always new shooters at the match, so you won't be alone in that regard.

yeah it gets intimidating when you watch YouTube and you see all the GM deathstalkers burning everything down

then you go to an actual match and you see that average shooters are...not burning everything down. at all. they're not even getting it warm.
