I have a general complaint. It has to do with advertising items for sale. I have always maintained that if I make an offer on an item, the seller has the option to 1) reject my offer or 2) make me a counter offer. This is how dealing, barginnin, dickering, and horse trading goes. I get the feeling sometimes that people that answer ads have no idea the worth of what they are looking at, pull a number out of their butt, and when it is rejected just go away. I will use the Taurus Judge I have up for sale as an example: this gun has not been shot hardly at all, has not been dropped, no scratches, comes in original packing and is stainless steel. With almost 100 rounds of high quality ammunition, I thought $525.00 was a fair price. I also made it clear the price was somewhat negotiable. I've had an offer of $475.00 and I countered with $495.00 and would meet them. Now I live in Awendaw. My Jeep gets 27 mpg, so if I am going to meet someone in Orangeberg (just using that as an example) that is 7 1/2 gallons of gas @ $3.30 a gallon which comes to almost $25.00 to sell the gun for my travel. So if this guy took my counter off of $495.00 I am not really getting $495.00 am I? I am getting $495.00 minus $25.00 of gas and three hours of my time.
This of course is just an example; but you get the idea. What this person could have done is made me a counter offer minus the ammo, we could have worked with that.
I think the problem here lies with the fact that some people are just curious but do not have the courtesy to say, "no I'm not interested."
Another case is someone on ArmsList had a Dan Wesson .41 Magnum for trade. I did everything but stand on my head trying to "trade" with this person and got first no response, then not interested response.....geeez, if you are offer a gun for "trade" then tell me (us) what you want to trade for. No trade here. He could have at least said, "I have changed my mind, I don't want to trade" Here again, " C O U R T E S Y "
While I am at it, it also irks me that people say "make an offer." Do you not know what you want for your gun? I offered a gun a price on a gun and he accepted it; that my friends is a binding contract in South Carolina. I had it in writing. Then evidently he got talking around and thought he could get more for it, and tried to stiff me on my accepted offer. That does not bode well. We evenuatlly came to an agreement but I could tell he was not happy. I wasn't either, I shouldn't have to go through any bullshit to gun trade.
I know we all get busy and fail to return or answer emails, even if it is just to say; "I'm not interested" I hope I remember my own words in the future; but when we are "gun trading" I would think offer/counter offer/how can I sweeten the deal etc. would go a long way.

Tom: I have to agree with everything you said..l Deal with this almost every day. Guess I was just bought up wrong....

I was taught that if you give your word, be man enough to do the deed. If I say something, I will stick to it...even if I run my mouth and lose money on the deal...That is the way it is done...

I deal with a lot of people on Armslist. Some of them are the most unfriendly, rude people I have ever met....but, I also meet a lot of good people. I really get annoyed with the people that never return an email...I have got to tagging them as un responsive....

Guess that is what we all have to put up with...but, I can't stop...I have to trade, or buy, or sell....It is in my blood...

I agree with you and Steve. I have to believe that ethics have gone out the window. But for the most part my online deals have gone well but several went as you described.

I've had really good luck dealing with folks on armslist for stuff like ammo and magazines.

I've had piss-poor luck dealing with folks on armslist for actual guns. No more - if someone on this forum isn't interested, I'll put it on gunbroker and pay the fee.

I think there is a mentality that if you're selling a gun, you need the money badly enough to lose your shirt on it. I call it the pawn-shop mentality; no offense to pawn shops but I'll never buy a gun at one, at least around here. $400 for a used 10/22, and one offered me $150 for my Ruger P89 (that's worth about $300 before custom work is taken into consideration). So... no.

OTOH, on gunbroker I sold a Mosin receiver with barrel stub, starting at $1 and ending at $85 + S&H&FFL. So who knows.

TL:DR version: people are idiots.

I can't say I have never dropped out of a deal, my health kind of comes and goes.
But I really do try to stand by my word.
I have made a few mistakes through the years causing me to pay more than something was worth and sell for less than it was worth.
We should all do the best we can to be men of our word.
I was raised to believe a mans word was his bond.

Yep, I agree also. I have dealt with a bunch of idiots on armslist. 1 who lives in Hanahan, no matter what gun I post he offers 1/2 the price. I counter and never hear from him again. He is George B a retired Air Force guy so he says.
any way like Fordnut - Steve it's in my blood. I like to trade and try new guns.

Good luck!!

I love armslist. A week goes buy and funds don't arrive and no anwser from the buyer. No less then ten emails then decide they don't want an item. Or my favorite I can get this here for cheaper so ill give you x amount of dollars. When I say then you should buy it there I get an angry response.

The bad thing is these days because of the pseudo-inflated market, people trolling around get a false sense of value of their item. Then when you offer them a fair price (i.e. a used item should sell for less than a comparable new item), they are like  or :x . One of two things will happen: it will rust away in their hands, or some other idiot will buy it and start the cycle all over again.

To all listening (though I'm probably preaching to the choir on this forum), don't try to make a buck on me by asking more than retail for a recent/current model. (Doesn't apply to rareties and collectibles.) Shop around best price; ask less than that if you really want to sell it. If you don't want to sell it, just think you can turn a profit, GET OFF.

All gun forums give a bit of anonymity when dealing with people.

Behavior patterns change accordingly.

Armslist is the ultimate in anonymous gun forums.

Behavior patterns can also be expected to change because of this.

That being said, Armslist is a great resource for "FACE TO FACE" transactions. I have noticed, however, that the people I meet off Armslist tend to be more skittish than people I meet off any of the other, "real", gun forums. It is what it is: Craiglist with guns. Expect heavy levels of flaky and borderline retarded motherfuckers.

I really like this forum and the people thereon but I really feel that with our varied age and gender membership/visitors plus the fact that ANYONE can access these pages that we should be more careful with our language here.I am probably one of the most foul mouthed people around but I do not use such language on a place that youngsters or members of the fairer sex might read.

Language can and will get a little colorful from time to time, especially during heated discussions. However, Stan in SC is correct in pointing out that some restraint should be implemented...

by ALL of us, myself included. ;)

If someone under the age of reason is on the Internet without a chaperone then the word "motherfucker" is the least of their worries as they meander through the deluge of pictures and videos of graphic pornography and dead/mutilated bodies.

Another way to put it: if a child has parents that don't care about them then the language they see on a discussion forum isn't going to have any impact.

So I am just curious Avtomat-Acolyte, do you find it a tremendous burden to be right all of the time? It must be really taxing to have to deal with the rest of us that can't seem to understand what it is like to be infallible

All that was asked was for everyone to please keep the cursing out of our posts as a courtesy to others that may not appreciate the foul language but may actually benefit from whatever is being discussed. I understand that the internet is full of people that are incapable of expressing themselves without resorting to profanity - but that doesn't mean that it is acceptable on all forums and in all situations. If your friends were all going to jump off of a bridge...

P.S. I actually was amused by the quote. I thought that it was pretty funny but maybe just not appropriate here.
