I have a Government modelSpringfield 1911 that I purchased in the early 60"s. It appeared to be new or used very little. A few years ago I had a local gunsmith update the old pistol.

Question: Do you think it is strong enough for current .45 ammo or .45 +P ?

Hi @Bobby Jones - Welcome to the Fanatics site!

Do you have any photos that make you wonder this? I'm wary to ever fire +p in most of my firearms unless stated. I don't see why you can use normal 45 ammo.

Agreed. Normal modern .45 auto pressures should be fine. Not so sure of +p.

I guess I don't really need to use any +P in .45 but have some older 9mm that I don't feel safe with anything but standard loads. So I just wonder if the old 1911 could handle them.
