I'm starting to get my parts lists started on the 2 lowers I got in the group buy. My current AR is wearing an 16" bbl and an EoTech. I'm thinking about a low power scope for one of them. It's not going to be for comps or anything in general. Just another gun for me and my family to shoot and have fun with. So what scope do you recommend in the 1-4 power range? The other one I'm thinking of doing a 18" heavy barrel 6.5 Grendel. Thoughts?

I have a 16 inch carbine, a 20 inch A2, and a 16 Mid Length and am building some type of 16 to 18 inch heavy barreled precision type rifle. all in .223/5.56 to make it easier to keep ammo on hand. im also planning in a shorty if i can't talk my employer into buying me one.

I'm going 6.8SPC on my build for sure. I looked into the 6.5 but it just seems that 6.8 is more universal - plus a whole lot cheaper on the uppers.

Ouch - that was a low blow mike. I'm actually making the 6.8 for my critter elimination weapon - this gun will never see any competition.

I'd go Leupold, Bushnell Elite or Nikon for the low power scope. As for the 6.5, I'm not a fan of heavy barrels on AR's unless it's specifically for bench shooting. A good mid-weight barrel will do just fine.

I had a 6.8spc in a Remington 700 at one time. Didn't really like the ballistics of it past 300 yards (where I like to play). The 6.5 has a crazy amount of different bullets and bullet weights. Also the 6.5 has a lot better BC that the 6.8. Your right on the heavy barrel. I guess I should have wrote "not a pencil barrel".
