The woman was a GA resident, and GA-SC lack reciprocity, so I'm pretty sure she wasn't lawfully carrying a concealable weapon. Somehow she got through the magic anti-gun force field that surrounds church property in SC, as well. Oh, and based on stalking charges and assault/battery charges in 2007 she might be a felon. Oh, and her own mother says she's crazy and is happy she's in custody (http://www2.wspa.com/news/2012/sep/10/1 ... r-4515581/).
I just read Clayton Cramer's latest book about the mass deinstitutionalazation of the chronically mentally ill. I can't help but think that this is another manifestation of that -- the perp seems like she isn't well (http://www.amazon.com/My-Brother-Ron-De ... B008E0LRQE) and might be better off in a hospital rather than a prison.
I also wish that more family members and care providers for chronically mentally ill people knew that they could call the FBI to get someone on the NICS "no buy" list (at least temporarily) in an emergency situation pending a full mental health eval.

I guess the media will probably ignore this incident pretty quickly, though. If the perp had been a "tea party type" and the victim had a different letter after their name then it would fit the pre-determined narrative.
"SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) ? An Atlanta woman charged with pointed a loaded gun at a South Carolina congressman over the weekend likely didn?t know the man?s position or target him because he is a public official, authorities said Monday...
U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy told police that he had been waiting to pick up his daughter outside a Spartanburg church on Sunday night when a woman approached his window and tapped on the glass. Gowdy said the woman pointed a handgun at him and told him to stop following her, Fisher said.
Gowdy said he tried to explain that he wasn?t following the woman but eventually put his pickup truck in reverse and drove away when she wouldn?t relent. The woman ran after him; Gowdy was unharmed and reported the incident to police."
