Glock 35 upgrades

I wanted to shoot a few matches with my G35 before I started upgrading anything on it and now that I've done so I need to start researching so I'm looking for input.

First are the sights. I'd like to keep the adjustable rear sight and add a fiber optic front sight. Does anybody have experience with both the Dawson Precision and Sevigny fiber optic front sights?

Next is the trigger. The Ghost 3.5lb Ultimate Trigger Kit that comes with springs is very inexpensive. What kind of a difference does it make in the trigger? There are several other options including a complete drop in fulcrum trigger, custom trigger and trigger bar, fulcrum trigger kit, etc. available from Glockstore. It'd be nice to be able to adjust pre-travel to a minimum, have a very light pull and have a shorter reset. Does anybody have experience with any of these?

I'd like better capacity than 15 rounds in my mags. I've been looking at the Taylor Freelance mag extensions to gain five rounds of capacity. I assume those are good to go.

I need a better holster than the cheap ass $12 universal nylon Blackhawk holster I've been using. It's beyond horrible. I was thinking about a Triple Crown holster. The C-R Speed holsters are tempting but pricey. Do they really shave that much time off your draw?

Only thing I can vouch for are the triple crown holsters! They are worth their weight in gold. And won't break the bank unless your bank looks like mine lol. On top of that its run by a local LEO and a genuinly good guy! I will buy from him again! As soon as I find my money tree!

Triple crown holsters are tits.
The ghost trigger kit isn't bad for the price, but here are better options out there such as having a gunsmith work it over.
Dawson front sight is good to go.
I have some Taylor freelance +5 mag bases, but I haven't gotten to run em yet so I can't comment on those. They seem well built though.

dawsons on the sights, no question there..
i would have the trigger done by a gunsmith..better result
i have TF basepads.. work great.. i got mine from Wall at makereadyproshop.com great price... contact him directly if you don't see them there
I had a custom holster done by David at kytac.com i love it... no reason to get the cr speed

Here is my Glock 35. I like the Dawson Precision sights, Dawson Heavy Ice Magwell, Dawson Basepads. The Taylor freelance pads are good to go but they are hard to get apart because you have to unscrew the base plate. The Dawson's come apart when you want but not when you don't. I have tried a few tigger kit triggers and some were crap and some were pretty dang good. The glockworx trigger I felt at their display at rocky mountain 3 gun last year was really nice. I always ran a factory 3.5 lb disconnect or with lighter springs and polished parts done by Accurate Iron. It always ran 100% which is more important than over travel, pull weight or take up.

The drop in Ghost Ultimate kit is a really good trigger but nothing compares to a truly gunsmith custom fit trigger.
The dawson bases give you the same capacity as TF bases & are tooless installation & removal, both are great.
The Dawson sights are the best out there. You may want to change the rear to a metal dawson adj. sight as well.
You won't regret a Triple Crown Holster, they're top notch.

You'll also want a magwell. Dawson Ice comes in std or heavy.

I have Sevigny sights and they are great. I recommend those because I have them and have shot a ton with them. Have not tried Dawson's, but you're probably good either way you go.

I purchased a Ghost kit and it's shitty. My worked over factory stuff with a factory 3.5 feels amazing and MUCH MUCH better then a ghost.

I have an Arredondo(sp?) mag extension and it's very very nice. If I were to really get into matches, I would purchase some for all my mags. Some people don't like them because they aren't easy to take a part like others, but they are solid and will not fall apart.

I make my own holster and pouches, so I can't comment on that. I know that Troy makes some pretty good stuff.

I don't see a need for a magwell as I can do reloads just as fast as most can with a magwell.

Thanks for the input, guys. What would a gunsmith do besides polish and change springs? I believe the G35s already come with a 3.5lb connector. I might try my hand at smoothing out the stamped edges with a stone and polishing the connector and other internal parts with a Dremel and some Flitz today.

I spent a couple hours cleaning, polishing and then a little lubing and dry firing. I used a flat part of a stone disc to clean up the edges on the stamped parts. I then spent a little time on the edges with some 1000 grit sandpaper wrapped around a file. I also used the 1000 grit to smooth out all the contact surfaces. Used felt wheels on my Dremel with some jeweler's rouge to get a mirror shine on the trigger bar and connector. I smoothed out the contact surfaces on the back portion of the striker and polished it. Gave the rod that puts pressure on the extractor a light polish. I assembled it and felt a little difference. After about 10 dry fires I felt more of a difference. I guess the CLP worked itself into the right places after a bit of dry firing. It's much smoother but I'd still like to find a way to get rid of the pre-travel.

Pre travel isn't a problem. You should be taking that up with your prep or slack out process as the gun is recoiling. The overt travel and the weight at which it breaks are the two things that improve accuracy and fast follow up shots.

Slack out process? I'm relatively new to competitive shooting and I'm not sure what that is. One of my problems is that in the heat of the moment when I'm under the clock I usually release the trigger fully instead of just until it resets (which might be what you're referring to). If every trigger pull was a reset pull I'd be quite happy. I need to work on that but the majority of my practice is at matches. Don't have anywhere close to practice right now.

There are a bunch of great YouTube videos on the correct way to hold a gun and manipulate the trigger. Basically you want to grip the gun with about 70-85% with your weak hand. This allows the trigger finger to move freely. When you begin the trigger pull process the first thing you do is prep the trigger by taking the slack or pre travel out of it. You should have the trigger pulled back to the "wall" aka the point were it gets firm. As you align the sights you begin to pull through that "wall". Once proper sight alignment on the target is achieved you squeeze through the "wall" and break the shot. At this point the gun fires and the the recoil process begins and you see the front sight flip up out of the rear sight notch. While you are watching that front sight flip up then back down you should release the trigger all the way and instantly prep it back through the pre travel taking the "slack out". So when the sights recover back to the proper alignment in the rear notch and on target you are ready to squeez through the "wall" again.

Google SigSauer Max Michel and you will find 4-5 great videos on how to properly shoot.

Everyone should read Brian Enos' book as well. Then take TDSA's Advanced Combat Pistol 1 class as soon as possible.
