I'm going to buy one here very soon. I like the grip on 4's, but I have heard of some issues on the Gen 4's? This will be used mainly for for 3 gun, some IDPA. All feedback welcomed.

Thanks

Here is my take.

If you are playing the game a Gen 3. If you are shooting full snot loads Gen 4.
Reason: Easy to change the recoil springs in a Gen 3.

That stated I shot a new G19 Gen 4 about 18 months ago with my match loads with no problems. The problems were with the early guns and Glock will send a new recoil assembly if your serial number falls into the range or maybe even if you tell them you need one.

That Gen 4 19 felt soft.

Best with your selection - really you cannot go wrong with either.

If you like the grip, get a Jager guide rod for the gen 4. It takes gen 3 springs and it's made to fit the gen 4, no adapters necessary.

I shoot a Gen 3 17, but just bought a Gen 4 34 a couple months ago. I haven't had any problems with the factory or Jager guide rod. I'm gonna go to the 34 and put down the 17, but not until after October.

Check out the Jager rod, comes stainless steel or polymer.

I have the Gen 4 and love it. I've never shot the Gen 3 so I don't have a comparison to offer. I do know like shootingbuff says that there are more options available for aftermarket recoil spring's for the Gen 3. There are more Gen 4 recoil springs coming to market every time I check, but I believe that the Gen 3 selection is still more abundant. I do love my Gen 4 and use it for 3 gun and USPSA. I would recommend the Ghost trigger kit either way you go. (you can purchase from Make Ready Pro Shop here)

I'm shooting a gen 4 G35 in USPSA and love it. I haven't owned a gen 3 either so can't really compare. However, I have had zero problems shooting PF 168 or so loads in my G35. I am a lefty so i like being able to switch the mag release to the other side, not an issue for most. Its reasonably accurate (although its not more accurate mainly because of me, not the gun!), and very reliable. I have made some modifications to mine, including Dawson fiber optic sights (big improvement!!), extended mag release, grip plug, wolf comp springs, trigger bits polished (comes with 3.5# trigger) and a shaved trigger safety, all of which made it even better. I had to undercut the trigger guard a bit with a Dremel but once that was done, the ergonomics work great and its very comfortable to hold and shoot. The new gen 4 grips are pretty good, but I like it with Talon granulate grip tape even better. I tried both of the additional back straps but settled on no back strap as the best fit, despite the fact that I have fairly large hands. I'm a newcomer when it comes to practical shooting, but I am really enjoying it and the G35 has worked well for me so far. You probably wouldn't go wrong with either generation.

I have had a G17 Gen4 for about a year (shooting USPSA) & have not had any problems. I am also considering a G34 Gen4.

If you go Gen 3 then you won't be limited when upgrading certain parts or magazines. Everything offered in the way of upgrades and modifications works with Gen 3, and you may end up buying used mags to save some money.

Tony ships quickly and service is great. Ordering one evening and picking up items from him at a match the next morning is hard to beat. I've both ordered from him and had items shipped as well as match pickup. His prices are great, too. My Glock is wearing some goodies from Tony. :D

What mods have you already done and what do you have planned?
