Glock 20 10mm

Bought a Glock 20 recently and Mike at Accurate Iron did a terrific stipling job and trigger guard undercut for me that really makes it easier to hold onto the gun and handle the recoil better. Went out to try it out today and was shooting 1/2" steel plates at 7 yrds when my son said I better quit because I was shooting holes in them. Started looking and it wasn't going all the way through but punching almost through and bulging the back of the plates out bad. I bought this gun to carry while in Alaska for bears. I have a lot more confidence in it now. I was shooting Blazer Aluminum fmj ammo.

I'm a fan of the 10MM. Owned one several years back from a company in Wyoming that was building them right after they got on the market.
Ammo was incredibly hard to find and brass was non-existant, so its one of the three guns I've ever sold/traded. Ended up trading it for a new Browning Citori Upland grade, that still sets in my safe.
They do have a tremendous punch for a pistol round..

Speaking of Alaska, as of last night that state is going to be front and center.

How did you get your gun there, or is it going to happen in the future? A friend is driving the Alcan highway this summer, and the canadians will throw one in jail for having a pistol.
How tough is it to get one on an airplane legally from Seattle to Alaska?

The 10mm is one of those "I WILL OWN" rounds on my list not sure which pistol but a Delta would be a pretty nice have! or an EAA hunter model would not be a bad deal either but hard to go wrong to go with the simple Glock especially if it would be carried where mother nature was harsh. Later,

It is not hard to fly with a gun but you are correct in that the Canadians do not allow pistols there and will sure look you over well for them. My father flew me up to Canada for a black bear hunt several years ago and they went over his plane well looking for handguns. No issues with my rifle at that time but I have heard they might have changed that some now.

Love the 10 and occasionally carry a comander length one.

Traveling commercial to Alaska, guns are no more of a problem than flying to another state.

Going through Canada non-commercial is not fun. look at http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/rightsandfreedoms/a/gunstocanada.htm for an overview. In practice, the declaration of an "assault weapon" is left up to the customs official. When I was in Quebec for a meeting a couple of years ago, I stopped by the ministry and was told basically to make sure that it is an unmodified commercial longarm with blue stell and wood and no provocative names.

This particularly concerns me because I want to fly the 182 up there, but non-stop from Bellingham, WA to Petersburg, AK is right at the edge of my capabilities with a small reserve. Either way, if the weather doesn't cooperate, I'll be throwing guns out the window into the ocean on my approach to any of the alternates.

Lonnie, I would like to check this out sometime. Will give you a call in advance of some of the USPSA local matches to see if you will be going. I have been thinking about a 10mm for hunting in OK, but have heard the Glocks are like holding a 2x4 due to the cartridge length requirements. But sure AI has modified to make mo better. The big 10 is also on my 'own some day' list, althought I have yet to ever shoot one. But the idea seems appealing. Saw a recent article of a guy with a 6" Nighthawk I think set up for hunting. Unfortunately, dropping $4k on a custom/semi-custom isn't going to be in my cards any time soon, maybe forever, so getting a Glock to fit my smurf like hands may be my only option. Hope you have a fabulous hunt in Alaska and hopefully have no need to use it on any inquiring bears.
