I haven't done a bunch of research on the good, bad, and ugly. Anybody have anything to share?

i just now have all the Glocks I need to shoot all the matches I want to shoot. So I am not really exctited about something that is new and improved right now.

What say you?

I have done a tad of research - have seen pros and cons of the "new" recoil system. Also if I am not mistaken - it takes new magazines...I'm not 100% sure on that one though

I'm pretty sure it will take the old magazines, but if you want to flip the mag release for a lefty, you have to have the new mags that have a mag release cut on each side.

Ahhhh - that is probably what I saw

Personally until these are proven in high round count classes as utterly reliable as their predecessors then I'll stick with my Gen3 G19 RTF2...

I've heard reports of having some issues in such classes.from other forums...

Here is some first hand Gen 4 experience.
This week during a class Chris's (fellow instructor) Gen 4 17 hand constant problems cycling. It got to the point it wouldnt even cycle the spent brass out. So he had to switch guns because it was doing it every round to every 2 rounds. Tap Rack gets old after 3-4 mags. Ends up that Glock has noticed a problem with the guide rod and has a Gen 4 version 2.0 guide rod now. Swapped them and it works great. There is a small difference in the guide rod but you would have to look very very closely to see it. I would stand off on a Gen 4 for a while. BTW my M&P carried on just fine through the course...lol.
FYIW We also had a Gen 3 Glock 22 go down in a 210 class this weekend. It broke the pin that holds the slide stop lever in place.

For all of you that are interested, there's a big write up in the latest issue of front sight magazine.

Ive been running a Gen4 G22 fro some time now and it is my Favorite Glock!!! The grip, mag release button and the dual recoil spring really make this "the" Glock for me. It recoils far less than my G35, I cant wait till they come out with the 4th gen G35!!!!!

Hello all I am a newbee and this is one of my first post. I have a Gen 4 G17 that I shot today and did not have any issues there were no FTF or FTE's with Brown Bear ammo. I don't shoot competention so I have yet to crank it up hard but I did run a few hundred rounds during a traninin class. As far as the mags my Gen 3 G19 mags work in it. From what I understand the Gen 4 mags will work in the older Glocks what does not work is when you change the mag release for a left handed shooter in which only the Gen 4 nags will work. They have cut outs on both sides of the mags.

I put 1000 rounds through the Gen4 17 about a month ago. Ran great. Was suprised at how soft it shot. No failures. That particular gun was brought to me by Glock. It had the series 2 mags, which sits the magazine higher in the grip. Series 2 mags will work in older guns as well.

Also shot a Gen4 model 34. Same thing. No problems, although we only ran a couple hundred rounds through it. The 34 is awaiting ATF approval from what I was told.....

I did notice that the "small" grip seemed to shoot a little left. Glock rep said he has seen that over and over from shooters are are familiar with the standard grip dimensions. It just sits in the hand a little different.

I'd be willing to bet the OHP goes to the Gen4 in 357 Sig.

i noticed the shooting left with the smaller grip as well.... that probably explains the issue.. i wasn't crazy about the feel of the trigger, it felt different than my g3.

im not sure i liked the mag release button either.. it felt funny..

Troy, is there a difference in the trigger group?

Mechanically...yes. The trigger group has been redesigned to fit into the smaller frame. They are not interchangable. I also think the trigger feels more positive and not a mushy. The feeling of "the slack, prep area, dead air, or whatever you call it" seems to be reduced.

I didn't like the sharpness of the mag release on the Gen 4 guns I shot. It was a real bastard, as I have long fingers that the button gouged while shooting several models. No bueno, no bueno at all.
