Gun is a RRA Elite CAR A4 with a 16" chrome lined heavy barrel, I bought it used in November (right before this latest mess).

The original owner also did the following...

freefloated barrel by swapping out the original handguard with a YHM Spector Length handguard and new low profile gasblock

Magpul ASAP
CAA stock
RRA winter trigger guard
AAC brake/mount
Badger Ordinance tactical charging handle latch

Round count is roughly 5700...

Currently using PMC 223A 55 FMJ and rounds are ejecting at somewhere between 1 and 2 o'clock. I don't have a lot of experience with AR platform and didn't know if this was a "warning sign" that I should do something as preventive maintanence vs. having a failure during a match.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

As long as it works, it doesn't really matter where it ejects. It's not uncommon for ARs to eject at 1-2 o'clock. The brass deflector causes most of that. Your rifle's fine, keep shooting!

FWIW, my ejection pattern changed from about 2 o'clock to 3-4 o'clock after putting on and setting the adjustable gas block. I also shoot a carbine length AR.

Keep shooting it. If it continues to function reliably, you're fine. You can look at "the chart" all day long but what matters is that your rifle is reliable with a variety of ammo but most importantly the ammo you shoot.

Most AR's have a gas post sized for 5.56 rounds. They are higher pressure, so when your shooting 223 there is less pressure to drive the BCG back. So the eject at 1 or 2 instead of 3 or 4. So if it ejects okay with 5.56 then the gun is fine. You could enlarge the gas port for .223 or just run it.

I'm going to say overgassed.
If it really matters to you, try an Adj. gas block or a heavier buffer to slow it down a little

I had an AR that I shot p-dogs with, when shooting off our tables I'd have 2 piles of brass. Each time I shot it would eject one at the 1 oclock and the next would be at 4 oclock? never figured it out but it would go boom each time I pulled the trigger and hit where it was supposed to so didn't really think about it much other than one of those things that makes ya think humm that's odd. Later,

Kirk
