Considering the lack of ammo has ended my hobby shooting completely how do you guys that compete find enough ammunition to complete your matches? I figure between practice and competition you guys have to need a lot of ammo, how do you do it?

not all of us do.. i cut back a ton this year due to ammo..

Don't know if I'm exactly what you'd call a "competitor", but I do like to shoot a bunch of matches...for me so far it's been dumb luck with finding/ordering components and good friends who have taken mercy on my lack of preparedness :) and I still don't have as much as I would like for this year...hoping things get a little better over the next 3-6 months or it might be a short season for me...

Save up and buy it anytime you find it. Don't plan on Walmart having what you need 3 days before the match.

Bought up a ton before the shortage. Also, I traded off ammo I rarely shoot for ammo I need for matches.

I got caught flat footed with Clinton's AWB. not even enough rounds to go hunting. The shelves were cleaner than they are now.
I've been a reloader since the 80's.
Started out that direction as a way to shoot more using premium loads at the same cost as cheap stuff.
I buy primers 10k at a time, and replace when the stash gets to 5K.
Bullets the same way. Range brass is a gimme. I can weather quite a long spell.

BTW. It will die down for awhile, but when Hillary gets in office, it will happen again.
Prepare now, and not pay the stupid prices of hoarders.

I am shooting lead bullets that I get locally. I'd rather shoot jacketed but the lead times and cost preclude me doing that.

As for powder and primers I was stocking up for the past year. I really didn't think that anything had a snowball's chance in hell of passing but now I'm damn glad I went ahead and stocked up. I got enough to shoot for about a year if I cut back some, which I have. I stocked up somewhat on .22lr too which is what I'm using for practice, but that has been cut back some too. This sucks....

Lead is good.
I still don't understand the .22 thing.

Well I do. Assholes taking advantage of other shooters.
That's the most political correct thing I can think of.

I set the alerts on Gunbot.net and have set accounts at most of the sites it checks. When it beeps in the background, I start clickin'! .22lr is still giving me fits, but I've even found a brick or two of it.

The last group buy here has helped me out with 9mm and I recently got a reloading machine and components to keep me in .40 for a while, and have more components on order where I can.

.22lr hoarders, flippers (gougers), and store squatters are pissing me off too!

Basically no practicing for me, just shoot the matches that I can.

My only live fire in the last couple of months has been at matches. In the mean time I've really bonded with my SIRT pistol.

I keep 5-10,000 rounds on the shelves which is enough to compete for an entire season. If this crap doesn't turn around by late 2013 ill be scrounging for ammo or shooting my .40 & .45 and my 5.45x39 next year.

I bought enough of everything last year to last me through all of this year, except pistol projectiles. But those aren't in short supply.

I know scumbags are camping out at every store are buying all the stuff that hits the shelves but with ammo manufacturers working 24/7, not just the normal manufacturers, but even those who normally weren't well received in the market, working 24/7 and increasing production significantly, there is no way these ammo campers are getting it all. Where the heck is it going? There has to be a lot, a huge amount, of ammo going somewhere other than the stores and I just can't figure out where that might be. I'm not the conspiracy type but I just cant believe that all this ammo is selling out before noon because of ammo camper (I hate those guys!). Maybe initially when manufacturers were running at normal levels and stores had no purchase limits I can see the shelves being bare but now? I'm not buying it...it's just not possible for those turds to buy an entire industries product before 10 am every morning. The ammo is going somewhere else...it has to be. I'm starting to think our gun hating current administration is buying the stuff up before it ever leaves the factory so they control guns by controlling the ammunition supply. Basically break down the shooting community and control them by denying them ammunition in any normal quantity. I've quit shooting and I'll bet there is a very large number of people across the US who've done the same which is exactly what the FedGov wants and they didn't have to ban a thing....just a thought.

Nah. Sure, a one ammo hoarder can't buy out the whole industry, but an entire nation of hoarders can. Now we have a fight between the hoarders and the people who are buying anything just so they can shoot.

Everyone I know is paranoid and will hoard the crap outta anything related to guns that's going to be potentially banned.

I've had people I haven't seen since high school message me asking where to get ammo and AR's. if you didn't have any ammo or a rifle before you do now and so does everyone else.

this ^^ the amount of people asking me where to buy guns and ammo (that previously had little to no interest in guns) is off the charts..
