FNS-9 Long Slide

Since early this year (SHOT), after reading a couple of articles on this pistol, and after shooting a friends FNX-45, I've put this pistol on my list for guns I'd think I'd like to own and shoot. The problem to date has been that I haven't seen them anywhere and they haven't been available for order (reasonable since they are a new product). Over the past week, it looks like they've started showing up for order. Now, before I just jump in and purchase one, I was wondering if anyone had opinions on them.

I know the FNS has been around for awhile, and while I haven't shot it specifically, I've fondled them a few times. Now, that the long slide appears to be releasing and the possibility becomes more real that I could get one, I wanted to see if anyone else had been thinking about this gun or if they had an opinion on it. Does anyone know if it is supposed to have the same trigger as the current FNS or is it supposed to be more competition tuned?

I have shot both the short (ALOT) and the long. Something you forgot to mention is what you were going to be using the pistol for. I will assume it is for some sort of competition.
I have shot the 4" ALOT, and the 5" a few times. The recoil impulse on the 5" is noticeably better
Accuracy is acceptable on both but they are not as forgiving as say an STI, you have to have your pistol fundamentals down. A set of Sevigny sights is very helpful.
Reliability is a given, we have an FNS prototype gun that has been through 4 seasons of 3gun and has yet to have a problem that was not obvious ammo issues.
The trigger is a downfall. The 5" has the same terrible trigger as the 4", no competition tuning. Larry Houck with FN did a trigger job on two of ours so it is possible to work. You might want to hit up a few of the forum sponsors to see if any of them are working on them.
Overall it is comparable to the M&P and the XD, just like it was designed to compete against.

Thanks Ryan. I'm not currently competing in anything; however, my plans, whenever I can get off my rear, are to shoot 3-gun and USPSA.

Tyler McCutcheon who is big into 3-gun comps said the trigger needs ALOT of work, so I imagine it's the exact same thing.

I invested in an FNX-40 but wouldn't do it again. The only advantage an FNS-L will have over a glock is the grip. The texture is very grippy, very easy to get mags in since the magwell is larger, and the angle and shape is different. Otherwise, Glocks have an even longer sight base, anything you want aftermarket is available, extended magazine bases are available, just tons of advantages. The grip just sucks comparatively.
