Ok I'm getting goodies together for this AR build, I have my upper/lower I got from the last group buy and will have a barrel from another group buy from the board now I am going to need to figure out a flash hider for this barrel, I was thinking about one of the Smith Vortex as I have heard they are one of the better ones and the price is not all that bad. I thought I would ask if any of the board sponsors sold these? I like to keep my money in town and to help out the folks that help me with advice and service here in town. Anyone point me in the right direction?

Also I'm trying to make this rifle light probably go with a ACE stock but not sure what float tube to go with! anything carbon fiber in the reasonable price range? my collar is blue so anyplace I can save a buck would help.

One thing I am having trouble with is sights, I will more than likely run some sort of optic but I would like to add some flip up style sights on the rails, something that would make it possible to at least hit torss targets in the 300 yard range.

Sorry for all the babble just looking for a little advice and some places I can pick good stuff up in town at a reasonable price. Later,

Joeboboutfitters sells them I believe. Also they give special discounts to boomershooter members, as well as a free T-shirt with every order and a hoodie with a purchase of I think $100 or more

I'd say dump the flash hider and get a comp like the Griffin Tactical Compensator. Forum Sponsor JoeBobOutfitters has them for only $50 more than the Vortex flash hider and they actually do something useful for your rifle which will make shooting it more fun. Here is the link http://www.joebobout...compensator.htm
Another option would be the Miculek/DPMS muzzle break. Those are actually cheaper than the vortex flash hider but they don't hide the flash the just knock down recoil.

The ACE stocks are nice. I have the SOCOM, ARFX, and Ultra Light. I like the SOCOM best for its adaptability but its high $. The ARFX will do the job 90% of the time.
As far as FF carbon tubes they are very reasonable. http://www.clarkcust...frifleparts.htm You can get both of the Clark tube and the Ace stock through Brownells. You should hit up Mike at Accurate Iron. He may be able to get a dealer price on those two items which will save you a few bucks.

The MBUS gen 2 are nice and they are cheap. I just put a set on my nephews Nordic Components dedicated .22 upper rifle. Mike can probably get those through Brownells as well.

Another plug for JoeBoboutfitters.com, about 1/2 of my rifle came from them and I can say that they did me right on every order and Joseph was very helpful and knowledgeable when I chose to change one of my orders.

I don't know about going with a comp on this build, it'll see some use in the field and I'd rather not have the extra blast of gases from a comp and heck it's a 223 it has little to no recoil anyway. Now I put a comp on my 7WSM pistol cause well if it wasn't on there you would break wrists or plant a scope in your forehead.

I like the looks of that Clark carbon tube I think it will go on my list of "GET'S"

I'm guessing as long as I get a standard buffer tube the ACE stock will work unless I'm reading things wrong, am I right here?

Question on the MBUS sights, can the front post be changed out to something smaller for precision shooting with sights? also can the back apperature be changed out? and finally can these sights hold up to adverse use? most of the reason for building this rifle is just in case SHTF and I hope and pray that it never has to be used for that but if I have to crack someone on the head would these sights hold up? I'm cheap don't get me wrong but my idea of cheap is to buy good stuff that I'll not have to worry about replacing later down the road, if I don't have the change to get today I don't mind waiting until next week or next month when I can save up the money to get.

Fella's thanks a mess for the suggestions and pointing me to some folks here in town that I can purchase from, I have an account with Brownell's but I'd rather give someone local my money! part of the reason I don't go to Wal-Mart. Later,

Question, how does a comp work for night use? does it make a flash or does it kill the recoil/muzzle jump and let you keep your night sight? I could see a comp if I were going to shoot 3 gun but I highly doubt I'll be getting a shotgun anytime soon but it does sound like fun! I just can't see a GOOD reason to get a comp for a 223. I'll probably take this yote hunting where I know I'll not have ear protection so a comp would just make things louder, this won't be a bench rifle as I have my rifles for that. I guess in a nutshell for a normal everyday AR that will be used for plinking, yote control, and Lord help us if the SHTF I can't see putting a break on this! I'm always up for a good debate so if I'm wrong please tell me why I'm wrong.

Either way the barrel is threaded so if later down the road a comp is something that I need I can always unscrew the vortex and put on a comp :-)

One other thing I saw this evening is the hydro buffer, do these things work like they state or is it just bs to sell something? Later,

The grifffin comp or a battle comp won't have a big flash signature but you won't want to shoot them without hearing protection more than once.

You should try a comped .223 sometime. It's pretty amazing when their literally is zero recoil. Come try 3 gun. You can shoot one of my shotguns. I promise I'll change your mind on getting that shotgun:)

Fella's I used to shoot IPSC and I loved it but I'm sitting in my recliner getting over my 3rd knee surgery as you read this, most of the things I used to do like run have gone away and while I know I don't have to RUN I'm too competitive and I'd be too hard on myself the main reason I stopped shooting IPSC.

I have shot several AR's with comps and while the one I shot that had the fun switch was nice to have the comp I couldn't tell a whole lot of difference when shooting semi or on the bench to be truthfully honest! maybe I hang onto the rifle a little tighter or I do something. I do have one break that I'm interested in and that's the one I have on my pistol but he doesn't make them with 1/2-28 threads but that is the first break I have ever shot that I noticed a MESS of recoil reduction but like any break that works well it is LOUD!

Jesse I appreciate the offer and if this knee thing works out where I can get around better than a fast walk I may take you up on your offer! I'd like to get back into some competitive shooting and there seems to be more of the IPSC and 3-gun stuff going on over the LR shooting, I thought about the F class shooting but it looked kinda boring to me, I'd like to shoot some unknown distance stuff and I just like to hear steel ring :-) When the doc turns me loose to terrorize the streets again I'll make a trip out and watch you fella's and maybe do a little bs'in if you guys are good with that. That would be all I need another thing to cost me money I don't have a bunch of. Later,

Kirk
