What do you all recommend to repair scratches on black guns (like an AR) or on gun parts (like a tube extension on a shotgun)? I want something that looks good and is tough.

You can rub a little Aluminum Black on the scratches and scuffs but if you use your stuff it's going to get the occasional blemish. I wouldn't worry about it personally.

yeah, things like the arc on an AK from the safety lever and dings on your AR brass deflector are a badge of honor, gives the gun character

Some of the finest AR's I've ever seen have little resemblence to the factory new model.
AR's are made to be shot, abused, shot, and abused again.
Safe queens, they are not.

(i've used a sharpie on occasion to hide a scratch)

An unscratched, unblemished gun isn't to be trusted -- just like a pickup truck with a pristine bed.

If you got a light touch, applicate paint or touch up paint for cars. If not, I've used a can of outdoor spray paint from Walmart and cardboard to protect the other areas from over-spray.
