A friend has a neat simple trick he uses. He has several small dowel pieces about an in long that fit easily into the cases he loads, and marks them sitting on the correct powder charge. That way if he gets distracted, he just sets the dowel in and can see if it is charged or not.

Same as using the witness mark on a muzzleloader ramrod to make sure a correct charge has been loaded.
