I picked up my first AR. Rock River Arms. Shoots very well considering the horrendous trigger pull. I'm so used to very light precision triggers for long range stuff that it makes this one feel like I need to :38: to make it go off. It measured at @ 9.5 pounds.

I need to know what you guys think. I don't really want to drop 200 bones on a new trigger right now. I need to find a good deal on a FF hand guard and optics.....and bullets first.

I have been reading and watching all the stuff about fixing the stock triggers by polishing the contact points and switching out the springs for lighter ones.

Has anyone here done this with success?
Will it become unreliable?

Does anyone have a jp trigger laying around? ;)
thanks guys

Matt

I am really liking the rock river 2 stage trigger. I'm the same way with the lighter precision triggers and my RRA 2 stage breaks at 4lbs whereas my stock trigger was at 6.5lbs. Short and crisp is how I would explain it the best.

Yeah, I thought that is the trigger i was getting when i bought the gun but unfortunately I did not. My only concern with that set up is what i have read about it losing its first stage and eventually getting spongy. Might never happen but....

An easy cheap upgrade is the JP lighter springs:

The 2-stage Rock River trigger kits are nice, but are going up in price here soon as Rock River just raised their dealer cost.

The Rock River triggers rarely ever go "mushy" as you say. I know we've probably sold 100+ and never had any with those symptoms. They are not designed to be used for 3gun or carbine courses, and I have heard that might happen, but only from the guys who do carbine courses. Perhaps the trigger will wear out only in very high use situations?

My only concern with the JP spring kit is light primer strikes.

Any reviews on the spring kit on here?

I've got a RRA 2 stage trigger in my current 3gun setup. It's there for now because it's what I had laying around when this rifle got built. lol. It works fine but I don't have enough rounds on it to comment on wear or feel due to wear.

Mike at Accurate Iron installed a full JP trigger setup in my other rifle with the speed hammer and lightened springs. After several matches and other shooting there have been ZERO issues with that setup. The JP breaks at 3.25 pounds.

After spending some time with both, I think I like the single stage setup best for 3gun.
