Well got my first 1911. Remington R1

Shot about 50 rounds through her today. So far love it! Shots smooth. Big jump in accuracy over my ruger SR40c.

I don't really know much about 1911s as this is my first I have shot a few and always wanted one. The fit is real good.
Has play left to right on the trigger but has a much better trigger pull then my ruger.

Jealous ... I'm wanting a 1911 pretty bad. I gotta save up to get the perfect one though. :)

Nice, I think every gun enthusiast should have at least one 1911/2011 to show their friends. I have a 1911 mostly becuase of my brother, but haven't shot it in over a year, but it sure is pretty. :)

I have to say the more I handle this weapon the more I like it. It is quickly becoming my new favorite. When I ordered it I had all kinds of plans beaver tail, skeletonized hammer and a diffrent trigger. Honestly this look has grown on me. I think all I will change is the grips.

cycle the slide back with your hand and ride it to battery, tell me if the slide stops before it's completely closed, you can tell by the slide hanging of the back of frame.

Thanks, Remington R1 theory....

well I cycled it several times by hand and it has completely closed every time. But I'm not realy sure what you mean. Wouldn't the recoil spring pull it closed?

its call a hang check,

ok, try this.... (make sure the weapon is unloaded before doing anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) not saying your dumb, just needs to be said...

lock the slide back with the slide stop....
Turn the gun with the barrel facing veritcal...
wrap your hand around the barrel.... I use my thumb and index finger...
release the slide stop...
ride the silde all the way down with the resistance from your hand...

what your trying to see is, when the recoil spring is un-sprung, that slide return fully into battery...

Becareful not to pinch your hand, but give the slide enough resistance to make the spring push it into battery, not with the weight of slide going forward and the natural caming action....

if that makes since....I hope,

the other way involves a pencil and vice, so try this first.....

what happens is once the recoil spring gets a few rounds on it and you get dirt and crap build up in the gun, if it is hanging, the gun fails to return to battery and you have a stage 1 mal. I have seen three so far that do it, and all Remington R1's, I thought for a while it was the lower lugs, then the bushing, but as it turns out its the upper locking lug interface between the barrel and slide. simple fix, just seeing if its a bad lot, of complete F-up!

Thanks,

A

Ok I did this and slide pulled all the way back when my finger and thumb reach about half way up the barrel the slid slams shut. But I do clean all my guns completely including the recoil spring. And I have only had about 100 rounds through it.
