Firing Up Fathers Day at Heartland! 6-17-12

That "swinging light" stage was awesome. The shadow moving back and forth against the target really messes with your sight picture.

I don't know how you come up with some of this stuff, but it works!

Another great fun match. Nice to see a new "family" come out and shoot with us. That's a lucky dad whose wife and daughter took him shooting on father's day!

BBQ sauce will be put to good use, now I'm hungry.

Thanks to David.

I agree about the swinging light stage. Really made the laser shine on the little bodygaurd. It would sure be handy in a low light situation.

So this may have been covered already...but just looking at the results...since I shot "other" I dont even get included in the overall standings...and guys shooting handloaded tuned 9mm 2011s are, I simply put other since Im shooting a non-production gun, but I shot 230gr factory ammo, and I do carry my M&P...I dont want to fire up a "race gun" discussion, but this seems like a product of the "hes got a better gun and if I had that gun Id be fast too" train of thought. I promise Im not that fast, and if you want me to shoot a production gun to be "on par" then fine, but just because I have some natural talent and I practice Im supposed to feel bad about shooting a gun with some work done to it and being quick. hmmm....We are all grown ups here, can we be honest...thats dumb...you want to be faster, practice more, if you cant practice as much as you want, SURPRISE! niether can anyone else, unless they have lots of money, or no job/life responsibilities, ie, house, wife, pets, kids...Those that do shoot quote unquote "race guns" deserve time to practice as much as they can afford to, and if they are paying a 20 dollar fee to do so, its in bad taste to tell them they cant, just because seeing your name below theirs on the score sheet stings the pride...Im sorry, this just aggravated me a bit. Im trying to be civil but honest. You can delete it if you want...Im just saying, if we are adults, lets act like it...

Matt.. I kinda understand why. But on the other hand --- if you look up the times for this match... in any division... there are people who are a lot faster than others... regardless of the iron they bring.

It boils down to this- good eyes, quick reaction times... quaility guns, make a trinity that goes faster. You could give an old codger like me any "built" gun out there- I'd probably not shoot any faster or better than I do my regular battery of "carry guns. The eyesight alone is enough to keep me in the bottom third.

I do enjoy watching the elite (really- we have some blessed shooters near OKC) I learn something watching every one of them-- and my side of the coin says- I don't have to get smoked at a 3 gun or USPSA event to see them.

The other thing --- where else can you shoot a "match" and see if a 640 or Bodyguard will make time and good hits?
Lastly ---- for a few of us...this "match" is our practice. Most carry gun people don't really practice a "lighting fast reload" daily... or do draw and aim drills or much other task fixated specific training....We don't worry about "splits"... "riding the recoil" or much of the other stuff that makes a guy run a 18 round stage in a quarter of the time the folks in the middle of the pack shot theirs in.

And if 'ego' was the deal... why would any of us be willing to bruise it shooting a 185 second revolver (or slower) against the 5 guys who run a lo cap on the same four stages in less than 60 seconds? We have some regulars who have shot a very high national and regional levels (master and multi grandmasters)...If ego was an issue... it's kinda like having AAA and major league baseball players showing up and a church softball league. It's "free" training for me- if the mindset is right ... we pay $20 for a shooting clinic.

Heartland is a place where one really shoots against themseves...and in the couple of years I've been shooting there I've seen some soccer moms and middle- aged guys improve a whole bunch in their ability to run a defensive pistol.

Yes, this has been covered already.

We will revamp and reinforce the "Other" division guidelines shortly.

Meanwhile, please understand that this is intended to be a Carrygun match, where people compete with their actual carrygun and gear. No other match allows what we allow as far as guns, calibers and accoutrements.

I realize that some people regard this match as simply another venue to practice with their match gun and that's fine. We welcome them! That's why we created "Other" division! But understand, it's really a separate match run simultaneously with the Carrygun match. That's why the scores are separate from the Carrygun match. That allows the "Other" shooters to fairly and directly compare their scores amongst themselves and doesn't skew the results of the Carrygun match.

Also, it is tough because no matter what decisions are made on anything there are people that are going to complain and it is a very tough balance. This is still the only match that i know of that pretty much any gun can be shot. Yes the "guidelines" for other need to be mapped out better and enforced, but this has been a great match and i know david puts a lot of time into it..... and i know he will continue to refine the match to best accommodate as many people as possible... i mean where else do you see a 1911, .380 Kahr, .22 pistol, M and P, .22 rifle all at the same match??

Lastly the only reason Wes beats me by 20 seconds every match is because he has a better gun, just want to make that clear :)

The only reason any body beats Ben...the Tigger costumes' under pants are too small for him to wear. I think it's a miracle the guy can shoot at all with all the binding and chafing...

Now... (sorta tounge in cheek...but I have "carried this in the past").... would my 357 Mag SAA be open or "low cap"?

I think it would fit in either... but that's just me. I can load it about as fast as I can drop my Double Action speed loaders... but they have a place for me to run this gun----SASS

Well that and Wes looks at that bumpy thing on the top of the slide instead of just spray and pray. :sarcastichand:

hahha very true

all that matters is that i look cool when i shoot, hits are just a bonus!!!

I think that single action would be fun to see but I'd say you better bring 3 of them or we will be waiting all night for you to reload....LOL.

Make Ready! might take awhile too.

You guys shoot first...leave me the keys, I can lock up when I leave.

(I would not do that... if nothing else - shooting a thumb buster at a carry gun match would not be a merciful LOL)
