i looked at the web site when it was SC. it got 1000 names while i was there. 4 hrs later it has doubled to half needed.

looked st the site when it was 20 states with petitions to seccede.Texas already has 25000 names.

but look to the right of the pagewhere it says other petitions. someone started a petition to deport everyone that signs a petition to seccede.

capitol T rouble.

but what if all states want to seccede?

As I understand it, a state does not have to petition the Executive Branch to secede. They just go. Then it's up to the feds to do something. Or not.

However, these petitions require The White House to respond. So, if The President decides to follow procedure (which he rarely does), then he will respond. Only respond.

The final result of these petitions will be zero. However, if a state chooses to secede, it just does.

And that's part of what bothers me about these petitions; they are asking for permission to leave, rather than just DOING it.

it is a way of expressing dessent, disgust witk government. will they take it seriously, probably not.

we have to do that another way.

I concur that the petitions are silly.

A much smarter and likely more effective approach is to work through the states to exercise their 10th amendment powers. WA and CO are perfect examples of states renouncing federal control over, in this case, marijuana. Montana has done the same with regard to firearms. The problem is that most states are addicted to federal funding. While the Obamacare SCOTUS decision did establish the idea that the feds can't use the threat of revoking federal funding as a "gun to the head" of a soveriegn state government, certainly having a significant percentage of the state budget dependent on the federal money machine saps a "sovereign state's" autonomy.

This is all just chest pounding by butt hurt people who will not accept their side lost the election. This is just petitions by people on a web site.
When a State legislature passes and ratifies a sucession bill, then we will have something to talk about.
This will be tested again: SCOUS Gibbons v. Ogden 1824 - Ruling states When a federal and state law are in conflict, the federal law is supreme.
Ths is part of what the war of Northern agression was started over. Lincolin would not allow the States to become their own nation and I do not think any future President or Congress will allow it.
All this talk is just Butt hurt Tea party types polishing their Confiderate flags. Get over it folks the election is over and we have four more years of Obama. It is only one election and one President at one place in time. It will all change again in four years. You will have new spin to create, you will have more rummors to start, you can scream over abortions, the economy, gay marriage, smokin dope and I am sure their will be a politician who cannot keep his zipper closed. So just be patient this succession thing is smoke and mirrors. The important issues like two guys getting married are yet to cum.
