So let's start with kiddo she got to shoot my ruger 22/45 mark3(she was unsure after the first shot but then can back and emptied a mag. Grinning ear to ear all the while) but the thing is to heavy (I had to hold it up for her) for her she's 4 btw. I was considering the following options:
1. buy her a cricket .22 $99 (I might be able to swing this)
2. Buy a tac light upper $280 (yikes)
3.sale/trade my ruger (my first gun) for a lighter more her sized .22

Wifey: (shh don't tell her I mentioned her here) she's learning but I do not think I'm the best person to teach her. Not because I'm not capable but I don't really feel like having more holes then the target. Also if I find someone to teach her, anyone know where I can get targets made in my likeness this seems to improve here accuracy

Me: I shoot uspsa and would like to be better. But I've run into a few snags. Money. But more so is, I practice but one of my concerns is maybe my practice is incorrect. I'm looking for something along the line of guided practice. Or even just some critique. Also the place to practice. You can only do so much at a "square" range I need somewhere I can set up a few targets and run through drills that's not going to break the bank and is close to the blanchard/norman area.

Any ideas suggestion comments?

Almost forgot. I would also like to have my daughter shoot in a range enviroment too. One where she can see over the bay tables preferably.

Here's my suggestion. Get better yourself and you will be better able to teach your kid and wife. To get your self better first shoot all the matches you can, ask for critique from others, and get someone to video you while your shooting so you can look at it yourself and compare it with others. I'm not a pro shooter but I do stay at a holiday inn express sometimes

Its not that I am unable to teach my wife the second I go to teach her something her eyes roll back and I get to see that look of " oh no here he goes again", my daughter on the other hand hangs on everyword I say and can repeat it verbatim and understand it. If she doesn't understand she asks. For her its just a matter of the 2+ pound handgun being to heavy for her to control. Some where she could benchrest would be best.

I have someone to video me a good portion of the time. And do compare such things already.

As for the last sentence. Lol.

If you're wife is like mine she will never listen to you. Bring her to the Heartland match and introduce her to the 5-6 ladies that shoot there. They will bond and help each other out. Feel free to ask the other male shooters for help as well. One thing I have found in the shooting sports is that everybody wants to learn mre then share what they have already learned themselves previously.

Yeah that's about where I stand with my wife. If I make a logical statement its turned into something else or just ignored. I should probabaly stop saying "I told you so"n
I may do that as soon as we get our holster from troy. I will have to look into the timing and what not. Then convince her to go :) its $20 match fee and its in edmond right?

I would Strongly recommend you and your wife taking a Professional Firearm Training class. You will both learn a lot more in a formal setting and have more time to ingrain the material.
There are several good schools in OK, Look at, http://pistolskills.com/ http://www.heartlandoutdoorsok.com/classes-heartland-outdoors.asp
USSA and TDSA find a good class and go have fun!!!!!

Thank you for the info. The only problem is I'm not sure I could get my wife in the door of a fromal training class. I could probally benifit from one. Just not sure if I can come up with the time and money for them at the same time.

Yep $20 I'm Edmond on Kelly.

If you want to get better on the cheap, then buy Mike Seeklander's book and do his dry fire routines for about 6 months.

Jesse,
So you're saying Tara doesn't listen to you?? LOL!!

Is this the best book? I have been meaning to pick a book up just haven't been able to decide which one to start with.

It is probably the best book of real drills. Also check out Brian Enos book. It will get you thinking about what you should be thinking and doing while shooting.

When my wife got the bug I showed her a few of my guns... Too heavy, to ugly , to this, to that.
She picked a one up... Classic Hollywood teacup.
Showed her how to grip..."more than one way to do that!"

Sent her to a 4 hour course.... Guess who can rack a slide, get a correct grip and cut the heart out of the blue paper man now.
Women will listen to a pro... You can show then the same thing the same way and your just another schmuck
4 hours, $80... Best money we ever spent.

I think I should start offering private instruction for woman only. Benji can be my first student.
