I had four or five failures to feed last match with my new STI Edge .40. I was running Remington UMC 180gr ammo through it. Could it have been the ammo or the mags? My mags are not tuned and have the +1 DP base pads on them. Anyone have any ideas why i could be having these FTF?

How was it failing to feed? Stuck on the ramp, nosedives in the magazine, almost all the way in the chamber?

Some guns don't like factory length ammo, if you reload load up some ammo at 1.18 and try them. Or borrow known quality mags and try them in your gun to see if its a mag problem. Best may be to try long ammo in mags you know run to check function.

I wouldn't worry to much. I think they need about 500-1000 rounds to break in. Mine was having FTF issues then they just went away.

Oh. And use lots of Mobil One.

Those guns dont like those flat nosed bullets. I have actually had mine push that style bullet back into the case when they struck the feed ramp. Like GT mentioned, rounds loaded a little longer tend to work alot better. I would also try and look for something with a rounder profile...bullet wise.

5W-30. I get 15 cc syringes and blunt tip needles. So a goal of mine is to actually use a quart of the stuff.

Thanks for the help man. I guess ill have to find a factory bullet with a rounded nose for now. Cause i haven't got into reloading yet. I'm still researching on what i need to buy to get started reloading. Ive been looking at the Dillon 550B press.

I'll say it...

You really need to reload if you own a 2011. You may be able to find a factory round that will run reliably, but to get the most out of the gun, get a Dillon going. The 550 is a great machine.

Yeah, I hear ya. I think i'm the only guy down at the club that doesn't reload. But i'll get there one day soon.

If you find that your troubles are ammo related, there are two sources that I know of for long loaded 40. Atlanta Arms and DC ammo both load the stuff.
