Fail to extract - G36

Here's the deal - New Glock 36, about 500 rounds through it. I've tried both the CCI Brass and CCI Aluminum case, and get a stuck case that won't extract with both flavors, maybe one or two every 50. Doesn't matter what magazine I use, have used four that are all new. It happened almost every stage of the Heartland CCW shoot earlier in the month. This happens clean or dirty, and I can't figure out what is causing it.

Any ideas???

I didn't realize it was pulling it out that far. My guess is the extractor is to loose. Glock could fix it or a local smith could pull it out and tweak it.
 
have you had the slide apart? I'd clean the extractor and slot the spring rides in the frame. Look at the ejector hook --- sometimes they get a little burr in the hook that wont catch the case just right.

A dirty or rough chamber could slow and impede a case like that- but I'd expect to see some marks on the cases from that.

No body want to hear it about Glocks... they do need some break in. My 19 had a few stove pipes and would fail to return to battery now and then for the first few hundred rounds I ran it...
 
First have you tried other ammo and if so what are the results?

Second have you tore the pistol down? If so and if you have had the extractor Depressor Plunger assm out make sure it is correctly installed. I.e metal to metal and plastic to plastic or the bare metal end goes in and the plastic is what stick out out of the back of the slide until the back plate is installed.
Check the spring load bearing and see if it is excessively wore.

Have you had your mags apart and replaced the org mag spring with hvr mag springs? or put the spring in wrong?

If all looks good and it continues with other ammo, load a mag to full capacity and let set for 2-4 weeks. Then try it and see what happens.

Looks like the fwd half of the casing has been scratched? Is your chamber smooth?

Has the only time this has happened is at the match? If so are you limp wristing the gun? Wont make you less manly though folks will talk about you lol.

Have you changed hte recoil spring to a hvr/ltr wt or changed your recoil guide rod? Did you install the guide rod factory or after market correctly?

Do you have lube in the chamber/bbl ?

How many rounds been shot?

Have someone else shoot it.

Check the spring load bearing and see if it is excessively wore? Torn it completely down, everything looks good. Lubed extractor, no burrs. Extractor spring and pin are straight and look fine. I used to gunsmith, so I have a good system of tear down and organizing so I get it back together right.

I intentionally limp wristed a full mag to see if I really was causing it, I get a stovepipe when I do that. So I don't think that's the case. I've never been accused of having a limp wrist! :)

After some "exhaustive" probing on the interwebs (like Glock Talk) the G 36 ejection thing is pretty common.

The guy who sued just seemed like the most high profile, greasy wheel in the pack.

Glock did not get sued until they sent a non- fixed gun back to this guy- after a couple of tries.

Some speculators seem to think that Glock may have undercut the chamber diameter a tad... and that holds up the spent casings during the ejection cycle.... who knows? Whatever the afliction-- it's hit or miss.
 
I'm not sure, as it is not a round gun. But the problem depicted in the picture is a failure to eject, not a failure to extract. Pstmaster may be able to shine a little light on the subject. But falure to eject sometimes is caused by the extractor being too loose, Bit then semi autos (them slidy slidy thangs) is not my strong point. Good luck later rdd
 
Might try honing the chamber.
A buddy had a similar issue and what had happened was he installed the Extractor Depressor Plunger assm in backwards. It wore the spring load bearing down pretty good but still functioned fine until I replaced it. I have zero time with the G36s.

Ref Jeff's comments about Glocks needing a break in well i would had said no until the Gen 4s came out though I shot a new Gen four even with my target loads with no issues. The updated recoils spring assm was supposed to had fixed that problem. I don't know the last Glock I ordered I made sure it was a Gen 3 ;)

Back to the 36 It is a shame any firearm has issues. Sometimes a pistol is just finicky with a brand of ammo. Though if there are accounts of this it more than not isnt an ammo. You could try the Extractor depressor Plunger assm from the other 36 along with the extractor nad see if the issue continues. If not start changing one part back to org at a time until you find the problem.

Also take a case from the other 36 and see if it will fit the problem 36 bbl. You could also just switch bbls to see if it is a chamber issue as well. Nice thing about glocks are parts are not hand fitted. Get er done and luck.
 
Looks like I'm experiencing the exact same issue as the others. Same rate of failure +/-. My wife's hasn't been fired as much, I'm not aware of any FTE with hers right now. I don't have the time to jack around with Glock over a $500 pistol, nor do I have time to file a lawsuit.

It is my carry gun, and like the guy with the blog, haven't gone to the expense of running too many of my carry loads through it. I've had zero FTE's with the Hornady TAP loads, so I'll continue to carry it. I don't plan on getting in a long, drawn out fire fight with it, so I think I'll not worry too much about it. I've had FTF in my service rifles when I was in the Army, it's just the nature of the game, and I'm still here.

Looks like I'll just have to buy something else to compete or play around with!

Thanks for all of the input, I do like the idea of honing it. Can anyone recommend someone that could get that done?

I dont know of anyone, though a pencil or sharpie wrapped with fine steel wool or emery cloth a few strokes at a time until your wife empties will fit might not be to difficult, just time consuming.
 
Don't put any tools on it. Make a call to Glock. My bet when they hear you say "I'm having trouble with my G36" They will fix ypu right up.

Could be.I would like to think so anyway. I would still try swapping the wifes bbl to see if the malfunctions continue. If not go to the other parts mentioned and swap them out one at a time to see if it makes a difference.

Well luck - keep us informed of the progress.
 
Just talked to my wife about this and showed her the thread. Hers has never had a malfunction, +/- 300 rounds. Since her 36 is her carry gun, I won't handicap her by swapping barrels.

I'll just call Glock.
 
Got the 36 back from Glock after just a couple of weeks, oh, how I missed it. There was a pack list showing the it had been upgraded and met spec...a bit too general for me, so I called. They ended up replacing the extractor and spring, slide spring assembly and front sight post. Then shot 5 mags through it and it met "spec." I'll take it out and see what happens!!
