Has anyone on here changed out the 3-piece spark plugs on their late model F-Series Ford? There's a known problem with the plugs breaking off in the head and having to use a special removal tool to get them out. I bought the tool at O'Reilly's ($108) but I was wondering if there's a trick or method to removing the plugs that may reduce the risk of breakage. Any information on this subject would be greatly helpful. I'll be swapping my plugs out this weekend.

I ran into the same issue on my 07 model. To be honest theres no special trick other than just getting in there and doing it. I put a little anti seize on my new plugs so that I wouldn't have to face this problem again
Ooooh, man...ha ha...I was hoping you'd have something more to say, when I saw you had replied.
I called Joe Cooper Ford of Tulsa and asked what they would charge to do it and I was told $400 to change the plugs and they would charge me an additional $50 for every plug that their mechanic broke off. Needless to say, I decided to do the job myself.
Here's hoping I don't have too much trouble...

I felt bad for not giving any technical info but theres just not any to give. If I had to do it over again I think I would pay to have it done. Find a local mechanic and see what he charges, I bet you can get it done for around $200

I have a good friend that is a Master Ford Mechanic, he said that he will pour a little Marvel mystery oil around the plugs and most of the time they come out just fine.
I could be wrong on the name of that oil, but I am pretty sure I got it right. If you were closer to us he said he'd charge $50 and you bring the plugs.
And if you were closer I could have saved you $60 on that tool with my O'Reilly's discount

I don't know how far from Tulsa I am, but I am about 25 miles east of Norman. if you decide to take him up on the offer, PM me and I will try to coordinate, you can come out to my place, I have a fully equipted shop, and a private gun range.
