Ear Protection - Asking for your opinions

Mine will kill a set of batteries after about 80-90 hours of use. They have some sort of auto shut off on them.if I forget to turn them off, they will appear to not work when I first put them on the next day. then I remember to turn them off and back on and they work fine.

I'd say so. They claim Auto four hour shut-off. Battery life of up to 350 hours
 
Protect those ears.

If your like me, and have pronounced hearing loss anyway, I have to ask the RO to tap me on the shoulder on occasion when shooting indoors with double protection.
 
Yup, I wear hearing aids. Can't even hear an alarm clock any more. So when I'm shooting, the aids are out, the plugs are in and the muffs on. Don't want to lose what little I have.
 
I've been shooting with the same pair of Peltor 3M's for over six years now. They work just like the day I bought them and the battery life is excellent. And the sound is very clear, better than the other products mentioned in the thread. I can shoulder a rifle just fine with them, but I do put a ear plug in my right ear in case they happen to "shift" while firing. I bought mine from LaRue Tactical and if I ever need another pair for whatever reason, I'll pick up another pair. I highly recommend them over the Impact models or the Pro Gold stuff.

Buy once, cry once, hear everything.

Good advice, Micah. Do you mean the Peltor Sport or the X5A?

My mistake. Obviously you meant the Sport because it's the only one of the two that uses batteries. DUH!!!!! :crazy:
 
The Range Master at H&H told me that I can get the Peltor Tac Sport Pro from an online company called LAGear.com for about $45............but I can't find anything by that name. Did I just misunderstand, and is there a company with a similar name?

Let me see, since I don't have any children to sell into slavery, I guess I'll just have to rob a bank to get the $$$$$$$$$$ to buy those. :sarcastichand:
 
I just want to throw this out there for you. Next time you are at the indoor range, take about 5 minutes and dry fire while others are shooting on each side. It will help with the anticipation of nearby reports.
 
Thanks, Bob, I'll try that. Honestly, I wish the weather would get better so I could use my outdoor range at home. I don't particularly care for indoor gun ranges. I can reclaim all my brass at home and somehow at the range, I lose 25-45% of what I shoot...........even though I clean the area to start.
 
The Range Master at H&H told me to get the Peltor Tactical 6 Folding Earmuff. He said when a gun goes off, it turns completely off and he cannot hear the report. Is that possible? Anyone know if that's true or not? I'm skeptical. Probably should have asked him to let me try it on the range.

That's how all electronic muffs work.
 
He said he can't hear the report...........total silence. Certainly not how mine works. With mine, it lowers the report to something like 85 dB.
