Does your ammo situation affect how many matches you shoot?

The way I figure, I have enough ammo right now to get me to about June or July for pistol a little bit more rifle, that's with my reloading components. I know some of you will sell your wife and kids and maybe your dog to have ammo to make it to the next match, but what about the rest of you, what are your plans? I will not go paying above market prices for primers, powder and bullets, and it's not that I don't have the money, I don't have a ton of it either, I guess it's more about the whole principle. When I start thinking I might not have the ammo to shoot any matches later, I start thinking that all the experience I have gained (some may argue, what experience I have gained) will be lost by not using it, it just kind of takes some of the fun away.

I have already began to cut back on the matches I plan on shooting. I was hoping to get to at least two pistol matches a month and maybe a 3 gun every other month. I have been shooting the OKCGC USPSA matches the last couple of months but I may start skipping those and just shooting the Tin Star IDPA matches as they only have 4 stages and are easier on ammo, not to mention the gas to run to Arcadia.

Pistol, I'm fortunate enough to be friends with the guy who sells bullets, brass, and powder. Primers I just get from H&H.
Rifle I'm running real short on and probably won't be going to all of the 3-gun matches I want to because of it. I hit up Walmart and academy as often as I can just hoping they have .223 which they usually don't. Worst case, I steal some of my dads stash :)

I am appalled that you suggest I would sell my family! I will sell a lot of stuff to shoot, but not my wife , kid ,or dogs. I just rent them out. ;-)

I've seen this craze happen before. I keep enough components in stock to shoot for at least 2 years. I think a lot of people will dry fire more instead of shooting local matches and when components/ammo become reasonably priced and available again, I think there's going to be even more some serious competition!

I currently have zero rounds of 9mm, so using my new G34 is out of the question. I could use my HK USP, but then I only have about 300 rnds of .223. Still waiting on Red River to ship that 9mm, been 4 weeks and hope it doesn't take the full 8 weeks that they inform on their website. Liberals suck big hairy moose balls!!!!

I'm counting on the craziness to end before it becomes a problem for me.

Hell yes it does, i started to shot three gun last year, i have only shot a total of 7 match, i actually sat my wife down to talk about trying to become an semi pro shooter. She let me go in to our saving to buy all the right gear, because i bought all the wrong gear the previous year. Once i get all the right gear even a place to sponsor me where i can train for free. THERE NO FREAKING AMMO!!!!! for pratice or match's. I am waiting on a source to become a bvac dealer then i will have ammo again. But if any of you are reading this and you are buying the ammo just to resale at 4 times the cost then :****: you!!!

I'm hoping on our group buy ammo to come soon. I didn't buy anymore since I purchased it and have been counting on it for my 9mm...

Going to cut back on shooting ( heck I already have), but going to do more 3D Archery Matches this year. Glad I have dummy rounds to practice loading my shotgun. I'm becoming Mister Dry fire!

Now your giving people ideas.

I joined USPSA a couple of months ago in hopes of shooting more pistol matches, for some reason I had a feeling something would stand in my way, I'm all for dry firing, but like to dry fire when I'm anticipating a match.

Not yet, however I am getting nervous on my favorite powder, i have enough N320 for the short term so I'm kinda saving it for bigger matches and trying to use up some of the other powders I have around. Hopefully the supply issue will let up a bit soon. I'm thinking the hoarders will run out money sometime soon :-))

It really sucks that 9mm ammo has jumped up to be more expensive than .45acp. I was already having to slow down due to my family growing like wildfire. Now I'll be lucky to shoot one pistol match every quarter. This whole thing is a massive bummer.

Before I got my most recent shipment of projectiles, I gave up live-fire practice and used what I had on hand only for matches. Now I'm set for at least a year. Fortunately, shotshells have still been available 100% of the time, and no price increase, so I've been buying a case every couple weeks just in case this stupid mess goes extra-full retard.

If I change nothing I have better than 2yrs of rifle&pistol ammo on hand.

I bought a JP NC22 upper and enough 22lr to last at least 5yrs. That should push out the rifle ammo problem by using 22lr offhand and positional practicing.

Its not the liberals that are doing this to us. Its the gun owners doing it to each other for the most part.
Ok, I'll agree, and I've seen it first hand, there are people buying ammo to resell, and I don't know if they are gun owners or not, but never the less....
You can call it free market buying, sellers market, whatever. I see it as people taking advantage of a bad situation.
The political winds are not in favor of shooters now, but the frenzy is dying off as people are maxing out their credit cards, and gouging sales aren't going through like they did a few weeks ago.
Its apparent very little is going to happen nation-wide. There is a whole lot of posturing, and blowing hot air by the administration, but the congress is not behind it with the 2014 elections looming.
Personally, I've gone through these shortages during the clinton years, and the obiminations first election. I made a vow to never be caught flat footed again.

Only thing really hurting me is 22 rimfire. I have pretty much quit shooting it "for fun". Probably enough bulk hi velocity to make it for a year. 22 target ammo, specifically Wolf target extra that I use in the weekly bench rest type matches maybe enough to hold me through June.
Reloading centerfire helps a bunch. I have a decent supply of components and cast bullets do not seem to be in short suppy. Also, components seem to show up from time to time in local gun store. Patriot Industries in Guthrie seems to get in stuff almost every day and prices are normal.
So, no plans to cut back on my limited events other than the rimfire benchrest informal matches.

Your wise doing this. There are lots of powders out there that can be used instead of some of the more popular ones we rely on. For instance, most people think Blue Dot is only for magnum shotgun loads. I saw some loading data by chance that said it can be used for .40 S&W. Called the factory customer service, and got a recomended load to start. Worked it up, and came up with a Major load for .40. I have lots of that around, so powder is not an issue for me.
Point is, look around at some shotgun powders. Those aren't in short supply and may be in stock with some distributors. Unique is a great shotgun and pistol powder. Some of it may be around with people that deal in shotgun supplies.

You ordered from Red River? When did you order? I guess I would get my order filled after you...

Sorry but liberals are the problem. Put it this way, if a conservative was elected president, would we have an ammo shortage? Don't think so...
