Had a little incident last night on the way home after dark.
Deer crossed in front of me so I slowed to 25mph as there was 4 more standing on the side of the road ready to cross.
As i went by, one of the does bolted and ran right into the side of the Tacoma.
Stopped, and saw she had broken both front legs and her back.
Phone call later, got permission to put it down from GW.
Gun jammed open after the shot. I left it jammed, and came home. Looked at it today, and the problem was obvious.
The gun rests under the seat and never gets used. After a year, the ammo was so corroded that it wouldn't cycle.
Should have taken a pic as it originally was, with all the green crud, but this is what it looks like after 6 hours in the tumbler.
We are going for our Tuesday eat and shoot tomorrow, so this all gets shot with new ammo in the mags.

Damn how much ass sweat got thru that pickup seat?
HaHa!, Its more like cow elephant dung, and muddy muck boots leaving moisture inside with the windows rolled up in the summer. I won't deny some truck stop burrito gas making a pass through on the seat though. :D

make sure those mags are clean on the inside as well!!! i bet you could disassemble and put in tumble as well if they are metal

Mags are stainless and still look shiny on the inside. The majority of the corrosion was where bullet touched bullet in the stack.

Beats sweating your ass off on a deer stand, nice hunting. Your deductible will make for an expensive hunting trip though, never heard of anyone suing a dead deer and winning.

Ok, I'll be the one to ask... how's the truck? Lol
No damage at all that I can see. Its a Toyota. Nuff said.
I wasn't doing 25 mph when I passed the group on the side of the road wanting to cross because I had seen one cross ahead of me. We have lots of deer, so thats the norm. See one, shut it down, and look for the others.
They just stood there looking at my truck as I went by, and all of a sudden one took off and ran into the side of it. Must have slipped on the asphalt and went under the truck, because both front legs were broken.

Been doing that a lot. I was on my home from a sauna in the stand.

Not a .380
Looks like .40 S&W

Curious, if you haven't shot the corroded ammo yet, do they go/no go in a chamber checker?

Is that a .380? Did 1 round do the job?
.40 S&W Winchester Ranger 180 grain LEO only ammo, and one between the eyes put it down instantly.

I shot them all at the range with no issues after a session in the tumbler, and another session at the wire wheel on the grinder to get rid of the built up corrosion.

Doubtful, but any chance you recovered the projectile from the deceased?
it exited the deer, so there was no recovery. Pretty much why I went for the Nervous system shot in the head. Its over instantly.

I do have several pistol and rifle bullets I've recovered from game. All expanded as advertised. I love pistol hunting deer.

Expected. Just curious

Always interested in real world terminal ballistics vs ballistic gel....Whether it is four legged or two legged

The very reason I always question ballistic gel results. There are no bones, after they do the 4 layers of denim its supposed to be accepted as fact.
In reality, there is a hide with hair, ribs, different internal organs that have different densities. All affect the performance of a bullet be it rifle or pistol, although I will say pistol is effected more because of the lower velocity.

Shot a deer with a .45 ACP a couple of years ago and it fell over on the spot, quivered for a second or two, and died. I thought WTF! I have discovered the miracle round!

In reality I was shooting down at the deer from a stand, it hit a rib, went up and hit the spine which accounted for the instant drop. I did recover the bullet, and currently have it. Obvious impact with the rib with the way it expanded on one side, folded back, and the other side. had a nice mushroom.

I've always been interested in terminal ballistics.

I just shoot between the ribs.......[emoji12]
But I typically get to see the terminal ballistics results for the two leggeds

Two legs have pens, badges, buttons, cell phones and all types of obstructions before a pistol round even enters the body.

Reason #2 ballistic gel sucks for real time performance.

Can we get some internal terminal ballistic reports in your repertoire?
IMHO, the more people that realize a pistol round is not a game stopper the better.

We both agree that ballistic gel tests are the results from a research environment.
People have died from .22 short rimfires up to hunting rifles. A lot of the time it depends on the shootee's will to live and/or just dumb luck in regards to the bullet trajectory inside the body.
22LR that slips between the ribs and clips a major blood vessel near the heart will likely bleed you out before you get to the hospital. True story
