CTD at it again

Quite a few companies ignored or cancelled orders after the Sandy Hook school shooting and then sold the items for these insane prices. Cheaper Than Dirt has had this practice for years and I'm amazed that "gun people" don't know to never, ever purchase from them. They're liars, cheats and will defraud you out of money.

Whats crazy is that the shelves at ATP are EMPTY at those prices. Hate it all you want, but SOMEONE is buying at those prices.

Welcome to Capitalism. I guess I'd feel different if firearms were to be considered a "Necessity" to life. But realistically, we do not hunt to survive and likely most of us have enough ammunition to keep our current bang sticks loaded for at least against future needs (or else you were unprepared, in which case you should buy a few boxes at these insane prices when you can find it.)

I look at it this way, that $3000 AR will likely be for sale in the future for $500 as they try to recoup their money after the fear is gone. Otherwise, it may actually have been a good investment.

Hate it all you want, but if we had the money, we should have bought a bunch at dirt cheap prices and be selling them ourselves for $3,000.

believe it or not, last spring, or was it 2011, i had the tax check in hand wanting to order 11 Delton kits for under $400 each. one SBR for me 10 to sell. thats when loweers were $49.

repost to missed opportunitys

I understand supply and demand, but in addition to economics classes one would take to earn a business degree, there is also a requirement for Business Ethics. I understand that what they are doing is legal, and in total keeping with S&D. What I don't understand is why a company that services a clientele that is as loyal as firearms consumers would take a salt the earth strategy to selling some basic products. I also don't understand how a company can prop up prices on a tragedy and some political jargon that may or may not come to pass. Honestly, I don't have a problem with prices going up. I don't prefer it, but that is for my own selfish reasons. But, I don't like the way they are doing business, and I think that this kind of action creates more ill-will than can be made up in short term profits.

I have gone through times of extreme hardship in my businesses and when raw materials skyrocket, I hunker down, Get really honest with my customers and try to help all of us get through the bad times. This type of business ethics is not the fastest way to earn a profit when times are tough. It does, however, create an atmosphere of trust and a loyal customer base that tries to work with me. The long term effect is more profits.

I know I cannot place my ethics on the back of someone else, but I will vote with my wallet when I don't feel like a supplier values my business in any way more than a simple transactional sale. The older I get the more I am willing to pay more to deal local and with a small business man that I can look eye to eye and get an honest answer.

And those extra ARs- I am not selling them for $3000 even though I could.

I am not asking anyone else to do the same. I just wanted to clarify my position to the guys that think this is all about supply and demand. It's not.

Ah, McDaniel, that is the truth, and it brings up the other side of the coin that was NOT being discussed earlier. I can totally agree with you on the point that it cause loyal customers to become disloyal customers.

Yay can say capitalism all you want I say it's just flocking people..... Another gun store owner Saturday " My prices have not chainged from what I was paying a few months ago its just taking longer to get things." So don't hand me that crap this is just Fuukin people.

Ding ding that's how it should be done.....

ATP has already ran me off. I haven't set foot in there in years. I thought I found some pretty decent guys over at the ammo dump and really enjoyed stopping in there from time to time. I last went in there just after the new year and saw that they were selling 20 round boxes of American Eagle .223 for $18.99 and Thermold AR mags for $29.99. I was planning on spending about $100 on ammo but at those prices I decided to not to buy anything and take my wife out dinner instead. I like to try to spend my money local and will even pay a little more than I do online but when the local guys try to bend me over I don't feel to bad about sending my money out of state.

And the bald guy in ammo dump....." Yes I have some p mags in the back but we are sitting on them till later to see what the market will bear." I will never set foot in that place again.... If you want good people go see rich at d&r he may not have a lot but he sure as hell won't jack prices on you unless his goes up.

I have been meaning to get over to D&R. My wife wants to get her CWP so I think I'm going to sign her up for the ladies only class they are doing in Feb. Sounds like this weekend would be a good time to head over there.
