I almost never leave my carry gun in the car overnight, and this once is when someone breaks in and takes the gun and my wife's wallet. The wallet didn't have anything important in it (maybe the thieves will keep using the panera card and I'll get a free pastry!) It has, of course, been reported as stolen.

So if you happen to see a black CZ P06 that was in a left-hand carry holster at a pawn shop somewhere (I'm checking myself), the last 4 of the serial was 7721. I'd love to have it back, but even more, I don't want it on the streets.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
I lost 10 grand worth of guns to a meth head relative several years ago. Make sure you report your guns serial number with the LEO's, and hope for the best.
 
I had a rifle stolen from my house three years ago and still haven't heard anything about it.
 
I once got shot at by a stolen gun...


i always kick myself in the ass when I slip up and leave a gun in my car.. luckily they have never came up missing.
 
It's been reported to the police with serial number so it's on the list. I would love to get a call about someone who tried to sell it to a pawn shop or something like that.

I'll watch armslist and you know, maybe I'll find it. Never can tell.

Don't give up hope. Back in the 80's, a friend had a Ruger Blackhawk in .22 stolen out of his car.
Many years later a Nebraska HP ran the numbers after a traffic stop.
My friend got his gun back. It's rare, but it does happen.
 
A friend of mine had is old .357 recovered just last year. It had been stolen about 7 years ago. Recovery does happen.
 
I had a Mossberg 500 on consignment a few years ago. It was taken along with 30 other long guns from a shop in Sanford MI.

The Michigan State Police, Midland County SO and BATFE had all but 6 recovered in about a week. The 3 guys who stole them were not the sharpest tools in the cabinet.

The Mossberg was released back to me from the Midland Co SO after the trials... that took about 2.5 years. To their credit... the gun was in good shape. I'd expected a rusty hulk covered with rusty finger prints and print dust all over it. They took good care of it whilst in custody.

Reminded me of something that happend so long ago, I'd almost forgot it.
In 1967 while a junior in High School, a buddy and I were Quail hunting, and getting back to the car, found three guys that were drunk as hell going through the contents.(nobody locked their cars then) My Grandpa's Win 1890 hex barrel pump .22 was inside and loaded. We had shot all of our ammo, getting a limit of quail. Told them to get the hell away from my car,but one came up with the .22. My buddy knocked it away, and we bluffed them into thinking the shotguns were loaded.
Long story made short, like you, we expected the gun to come back after the court thing, all rusty, etc. but it didn't. That rifle is still in my safe, and is still used on occasion. It was in their possession about a year.
 
I had a Glock 23 stolen in Bricktown in front of Toby Keith's I Love This Bar restaurant. I normally carry my Glock with me when I go to see a movie at Harkins, but I wasn't sure if my buds and I were going to go drinking and raisin' a ruckus in Bricktown afterwards. I decided to keep the gun in the car, just in case I was going boozin'.

Anyways, long story short, I didn't go boozin' and found the gun missing. After hours of damn near stripping the vehicle down into pieces, I concede that it's long gone and I report it the OKC PD.

The funny thing is, when they arrived and did the report, they were both telling stories of firearms they had lost or stolen. They then spent the next few minutes telling stories about other officers in the force having their firearms lost or stolen, as well. The whole time my face was like o_0

I guess it just never occurred to me just how common it was and especially among those on the force. One of the officers told me a story about another officer that had a Glock stolen over 13 years ago and had been missing till just the year before, when it was finally retrieved from a bust where the gun was found.


Anyways, it's been about 2 years since my gun was stolen and still haven't heard anything back. Actually, I don't think an investigator ever contacted me about it, even though the responding officers said that someone would in 2 weeks after I had filed a report. A part of me wonders if maybe the report got lost or something. I guess I should call and ask.
 
Good news....generally stolen guns are recovered. Usually recovered in a pawn shop or on a traffic stop. If the serial number has been removed (usually grinded down), the crime lab can still raise those numbers. Don't ask me how, that like science and stuff.
 
They do it with acid. When the number is stamped the molecules of the metal are compressed in the indentation and it goes a good bit deeper than the indentation itself. When they etch that area with acid the compressed molecules etch differently (different rates) than the surrounding metal giving a nice visual of the stamped numbers.
 
Two things.

First we shall rename Scott to Don Herbert.

Second, if you need to dump acid on my firearm you can keep it.

Hope you get it back Sean, maybe a kick in the nuts is in order.
 
I thought you could pull up ground off stamped numbers with x ray and magnuflux too?

If you get your gun back someones going to hand stamp some numbers back on your gun... and re-enter the re marked gun back into the FFL system anyway.... it's gonna be ugly one way or the other.

Don't know about xray. Magnaflux might work on blued steel, it ain't gonna work on aluminum at all and some stainless steels aren't magnetic either.
