Cracker Barrel Anti Gun Policy

Personally I can live with no open carry for now.
My big thing is places that do not allow concealed carry.

The only places that should be off limits to carrying any weapon are detention facilities.

There is never a legitimate excuse for the exclusion of the right to self defense anywhere else.

Thanks Dave. I am firm in my belief that Open Carry is not for me, and that I believe it should be available.
I was referring to Avtumat's opinion regarding people who have mental deficiencies such as those with autism spectrum disorders.

In the good old days families took care of members of their family that needed to be kept away from dangerous objects. I don't know if we have a higher incidence of Autism now or if it just recognized better or the gene pool needs cleaning. We have managed to upset the natural selection process with modern medicine and social practices. I would have been culled on several occasions save for medical intervention. Of course, the all or none philosophy of government is why the homeless are more often mental or emotional handicapped individuals. We are faced with the dichotomy of granting "unlimited freedom" or being responsible for the results of that unlimited freedom. Where do your rights end and mine begin? When is too mentally, morally or emotionally handicapped. I know people who should not have guns or other deadly objects but are capable of functioning in society. It is a tough call, and easy to make right up until it strikes close to home. Just my opinion.

Thanks Dave, this is exactly what I struggle with. And who should decide where the line should be drawn?

As someone that has taken multiple oaths to support and defend the US Constitution of the United States the answer to that question is remarkably clear.

Just the same as it is better for 10 guilty men to go free rather than 1 innocent man goes to prison it is better for the general public to be in danger of potential negligent harm than to make everyone suffer under tyranny.

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin

The people that make concession and limit or restrict Civil Rights are more of a threat to Liberty and Freedom than those with the outspoken desire to completely eradicate them. At least the second group is honest and can be fought against.

AA the same people you quote were building a government to supply organization and general protection to a fledgling country and allow them to exercise their individual freedoms without overstepping on someone else's freedoms. I truly believe you will find you are preaching to the choir. It ain't a perfect union but it is what we have to work with. We do our best to influence the rule of law and government by voting for those who will govern as we feel they should. We've not been successful for a while. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I have two members of my family in the service even as we speak so I'm painfully aware of the price of freedom and the need to fight to preserve it.

Hmm..It hadn't occurred to me to have constitutional carry and rely upon the family members of the less than capable people to prevent them from carrying weapons. These days I tend to rely upon the general public to make entirely the wrong decision, imo.

As I said the gene pool has developed a scum that needs cleaning. Constitutional carry might actually help in that regard. When I was a child, a few years back, we busted each others nose instead of a cap, a knife was only for serious fighting and a gun was only used for hunting or going to war and maybe about 10,000 rounds of .22 for practice/fun. The guns were not locked up in our house because they didn't need to be. We protected our family business with firearms on several occasions. Never had to shoot because my brothers and my Dad took them by surprise . Three shotguns and a scoped rifle brought out the peace in these fellows. The Police only helped by picking them up for us. Family policing doesn't necessarily work all the time. My Great-Grandfather died in prison for shooting a carpetbagger who swindled my Great-Grandmother out of the last of the home place in Sylvania, Ga. My Grandfather was murdered by a well to do gentleman who was jealous because his sharecroppers were driving '31' Chevrolets just like his chauffeur driven version. It is a hard world we live in and it is nothing new. Apples continue to fall from the family trees and seems a large percentage are rotten in some families. These are not the ones you want guarding the morally handicapped. As for the general public, They cease to amaze me. The common man has begat some uncommonly stupid offspring. The high born-low bred in power are not much better or any less evil. In My Cynical Opinion.
