The State Match is under way; we had only a little rain today and actually completed six of the ten stages so we should have no problem shooting four stages tomorrow even if we have to take a couple of breaks while showers pass.

I spoke to several visitors on Thursday and today and expect to greet more tomorrow. Come on out and see some good shooting! We start up Saturday morning at ten.

Memorial Day weekend is a great time for cowboy shooting! The weather should be good.

The Greenville Gunfighters shoot this Sunday May 25. More info on the website: http://www.greenvillegunfighters.com/

An old friend of mine who lives in the Florida panhandle but who comes up to shoot our matches a couple of time a year noticed that his photo is posted on the Greenville Gunfighters website. It's a great photo showing him shooting his 1860 Henry replica loaded with black powder loads.

Hey, if he can come all the way from Florida what's YOUR excuse?

We had a great match yesterday. We had several spectators who came by to watch.

I tried something new yesterday. Instead of shooting in my "age based" category that allows me to shoot my revolvers using both hands, I signed up to shoot in the "Gunfighter" category where you shoot with a revolver in each hand. It was very challenging and I had a couple of misses from my left hand revolver. Even so I finished second in the category so I felt pretty good about my "debut".

That's one of the great things about cowboy action: there are many ways to play the game and to have fun.

I missed the June match so am looking forward to this month's match on Sunday July 27. I believe Registration has been moved to the main clubhouse building; I will renew my invitation to all of my Palmetto Shooters Forum friends to come out to watch the match. No charge for spectators but we do ask that you stop by at Registration and sign a waiver.

Weekend weather looks good for outdoor activities.

If you let me know ahead of time that you are coming I can arrange an informal orientation.

We had 51 shooters yesterday which is a good turnout for a Summer match. We had two youth shooters on my posse; always fun to shoot with the kids. We had one first time shooter; he was on a different posse so I did not see him shoot but I saw him after the match and he was all smiles.

We will shoot two matches in August; the monthly cowboy match on the 24th and the Wild Bunch State Match August 29 and 30.

Our monthly cowboy action match is tomorrow. Might be a bit chilly of course.

Safety briefing at 9:30; usually start shooting by ten.

Next weekend is the "Raid on Conestee" Wild Bunch state match; Saturday and Sunday.

We had a little rain on and off but 33 shooters were brave enough to defy the forecast. I had a good match but finished just above the middle of the pack. The Greenville match draws good shooters from three states.

We need some new shooters! The worse they shoot, the better. Maybe I can move up in the percentiles!

In all sincerity we had a great time today. Those who didn't come, missed out.

This weekend is the 4th Sunday so it's time for the cowboy action match. I helped set up the targets after work today and we have some interesting stages coming up. A couple of pistol knockdown targets in the mix (no Texas Star this month but you can't have everything).

We should have enjoyable weather this weekend.

If you've never seen a cowboy action match this is a good opportunity. Safety briefing at 9:30; usually start clanging steel by ten.

For directions and other info go to www.greenvillegunfighters.com. You can also post here or send me a PM.

Now I have to decide whether to choose the Gunfighter category....

The Greenville Gunfighters monthly cowboy match will be held this Sunday October 26. I expect we will have a big turnout as people are getting ready for the Southeast Regionals on the second weekend of November.

Are these CAS open to anyone to attend and modern clothing?

Yes indeed! Costuming rules (which are actually very easy to meet) apply only to participants. Spectators can wear whatever they like. Most clubs require that spectators wear eye and ear protection on the range.

You are pretty close to the Geechee Gunfighters in Ridgeville/Summerville. I think their monthly match is this Saturday, and they will be hosting the SE Regionals on the 2nd weekend in November. Of course, you are welcome to come see us in Greenville if you are in the area.

Our next cowboy action match will be Sunday November 23.

There are five Sundays in November so we'll have a Wild Bunch match on Sunday November 30 (Thanksgiving weekend). Get those 1911s ready to run!

Our matches go forward "rain or shine". The forecast tomorrow is for rain but we often beat the forecast. I'm all geared up for a great match.

Come and check it out!

Noon update: There's a first time for everything. Several of us gathered this morning to see how the weather panned out. By our normal start time at 9:30 it was raining steadily and the radar showed more rain on the way, so we canceled the match.

We'll be back next Sunday for the Wild Bunch match.

We had very nice weather today which contributed to a good turnout of 26 shooters at our Wild Bunch match. We had one first time shooter who was doing well but unfortunately was called into work before the match was over.

WBAS is a fun sport and it's unfortunate that we can't shoot it monthly. I understand that the "Palmetto Posse" in Columbia will hold a Wild Bunch match on Saturday, January 31. Also the Walnut Grove Rangers in Western North Carolina has hosted some Wild Bunch matches and has more planned.

It was interesting to see the different 1911 pistols used to good effect today. Everything from Colts and Kimbers to Rock Island Armory with a couple of Rugers, Remington R1s and Springfields.

Blowin' the dust off of this thread.

The January match marks the 5th anniversary of my "debut" as a cowboy action shooter, so I'm looking forward to the monthly match on Sunday, January 25.

Another reason to look forward to the January match: the November and December matches were rained out, so I am suffering from symptoms of withdrawal. I'm ready to get out there and hammer (tack hammer?) some steel!

If you have been thinking about coming out, let me say what I was told five years ago: "Come and check it out. Happy to see you. Don't buy ANYTHING."

I need some Palmetto Shooters Forum members to come out and help me celebrate my five year anniversary. All kidding aside, visitors and spectators are welcome at our matches. If you will let me know that you are coming, I will give you the "nickel tour" before the match.

Our monthly cowboy action match is coming up on January 25. I was talking to a couple of MSR shooters about it today.

Five years ago I attended my first match. The day before Greenville had a snowstorm and I thought perhaps they would call off the match but since re roads were not icy the match went forward. I was surprised to see about 15 shooters show up on a Winter morning and that made a positive impression on me.

Over the past five years we've not had to cancel a match due to weather until this November-and then it happened again last month. Hoping that "third time's a charm" and we'll have great weather next Sunday.

5 years ago this past Friday you joined here as well! Your posting about your action shooting has been pretty cool too, it opened a lot of eyes to the sport. Thanks Crunchy Frog, looking forward to the next 5 years!

Thank you, Raver and thanks for the very positive tone that this forum enjoys.

Accuweather says we will have no rain, times of sun and clouds and a high in the mid 50s on Sunday. I'll take it.

Ammo loaded and in the cart box. Ordered some new boot socks. Let' go shoot a cowboy match!

We had a good turnout for a Winter match; 46 shooters including three young "Buckaroos". A gentleman showed up to shoot his first ever match but was having some health issues and decided not to shoot today. I recommended that he bring a folding school or folding chair if standing for long periods is an issue. We try to work with people with physical limitations.

One of our fairly new shooters brought a friend who is hoping to get started, so perhaps we'll see him next month.

I shot a couple of videos that I'll post in the cowboy match videos thread.
