Howdy,

I'm new to 3gun and I am looking for a compensator for a Stag 3G .. I've read and read and read and my head is about to explode... it seems titan, rolling thunder, and a few others are mentioned time and time again but there seems to be no definitive poll anywhere on what equals awesome in a compensator. What features do what in terms of comps and why do people like the comps they use? could anyone lend me some insight as to why you chose the comp you use on your AR15. I'm wide eyed and wanting to learn but it seems with like most things online I'm having a bit of information overload and there are a few good posts hidden in the middle of a ton of garbage out there... I want real world first hand knowledge by shooters.. Educate me please! There are so many comps out there I'm not sure where to begin.

Things I ponder are:

Tuneable versus non-tunable?
Do you loose a lot of velocity when using them? Do long shot trajectories change a lot as a result?
Length vs width versus design... .what matters, what doesn't.

Thanks!

There was a Front Sight article a few years ago, using some field tests to determine effectiveness. I believe the top 3 were Titan, Rolling Thunder and the Miculek.

The top three have been the Titan and Rolling thunder, and the JP Benny Cooley. I couldn't decide from a performance standpoint of which was actually better than the other, so I went with the JP for two reasons.
1. JP parts are always top quality.
2. It looked better on my rifle.

Tischauser has a post or video somewhere of how to tune a comp.

I have a rolling thunder on my Loki, a trio of titans on my Stag 3G's and my DPMS .308. I have a JP tank break on my S&W and a JP Tactical break on my CTR-02. I want to play with a Surefire break in the near future. I also have a Miller Precision Arms break I'm about to test. Right now it doesnt get any better than a thunder or Titan.

I think the only complaint you'll ever hear about the Titan is the noise BUT it works very well! my new barrel with have a Rolling Thunder cause well I wanted to try one and couldn't beat the price :-) so we will see if I like it or not! lot's of folks shoot them and really like them. I doubt you could go wrong with either as they are all wonderful. Later,

Kirk

I had never shot a comp'd gun until I got my Loki. I went with the rolling thunder and holy hell is it ever flat!

I hear it told the the Mikulek is pretty decent if you are on a budget.

Thanks for the input guys. I suppose I'll probably end up with both the rolling thunder and the titan eventually it sounds like... I'm sure I have more black rifles in my future anyway. It sounds like I can't go wrong so I'll sleep on it a few nights and then choose. I appreciate the feedback

P.E Kelly... that was one awesome article thanks again... you should have gotten a merit badge for that. Awesome testing procedure and very innovative methods.. love the laser bit.. just cool!

I just removed my Miculek and placed a Miller Precision Arms Hammer Head on my rifle. I was blown away with the difference it made. I have only ran a few mags through the gun since then, but I can follow up with no noticeable movement in my scope. Now I can see how the better shooters get 2 shots off so quickly. I will be ordering more of these as well and hope to place one on the 6.8 soon. I have not stood beside it and had someone else shoot the rifle, but I am sure it will shake my fillings loose. But I didn't notice a thing while firing.
