I have often lamented (yes, lamented) about self defense when you are bundled up so thick you can barely go to the bathroom much less draw your weapon reasonably quickly [insert joke]. For those of you who ventured out over the last couple of days with your layers and layers of clothes on, how did you carry?

Me, today I wrapped up an went to town for a Starbucks (caffeine emergency) The J-Frame pocket carry seemed like the only option with which I could reasonably have access to. Carhartt coveralls have pretty large pockets :)

The snub moves into the coat pocket for me. Winter is nice time to carry... a inner layer covers the belt gun so I'ts nice not worrying about the bigger gun showing indoors.

So we have a "two-gun" carry huh?

90% of the time. 1911 on the belt... SW 60 in a pocket. Some days.. 2 revolvers ... the 60 and the Colt Cobra or a 357 SW.

Paranoid is a good way to be.... when folks are out to get ya

Back when I was a kid, many of my relatives were police officers. My Dad's good buddy was a Michigan State Police officer... Tom got me hooked on the pocket gun....MSP issued J frames to uniformed guys as a back up gun.

Cold weather carry for me just moved the G19 from IWB or OWB. Makes a nice change as all I have to do is just throw a LS shirt and coat on and not worry about it.

It will be getting colder soon. Does anyone change their carry choice (gun, holster, etc) for the winter months? Maybe just add a smaller gun to a pocket of the outside layer?

I usually wear a hoodie that's still easy enough to pull up to retrieve my belt gun. I've been thinking about getting a S&W 442 for the pocket if it gets cold enough that I require a thicker/stiffer jacket.

Do you ever wear coveralls? That's when belt carry gets really weird

I had to wear those really thick Carhart coveralls and coat when I was doing Oilfield work. I can't imagine any good choice for carry with those stiff Bastards on. Maybe a crossdraw chest rig outside the coat.

442 for me all year front pocket

I like carrying in the winter more so than in the summer. With a light jacket I can just drop a Kahr CW-40 in the pocket, couple of spare mags in the other pocket, and I'm good to go.

I think with coveralls I am going to go with appendix carry (G26) and access it through the side zipper. Not optimum but I always have my hand in there anyway, so the draw will be very natural and fluid

Im not at all a fan of pocket carry, as in front pocket of pants, just because I cant seem to get used to it. However the idea of a small auto or J frame in the pocket of a coat or hoodie is an interesting idea. I like carrying IWB, usually an XD Service or a Glock in a CTAC, but it might be worthwhile to pick up a snubbie to supplement it in the winter. It would also be easier to access while seated in a vehicle.

Still carry as normal. Got out today and did some work from deep concealment.

Don't forget to start incorporating some close protection type work when you train. The holiday shopping season is upon us. Most may likely be accompanied more often than normal and the shopping crowds inevitably bring out the thieves in force.

Your absolutely correct. Practice at 3' or less. First shot right out of the holster on the way up to the aimed shooting position......if you can get that high.
