What is everybody's opinion of the cmmg AR-15.
I haven't seen much discussion about them, and have an opportunity to pick one up.

I remember the love they used to get over on Arfcom about 4 years ago. Since then all I've heard is bad things. People talk like their QC has slipped. Dunno if it's true or just everyone's fan boyism towards other brands. I've never seen or shot one so no personal experience to add. If its a good enough deal, might as well. I would get the piston though but that's just me.

I've got a 16" CMMG carbine and never had any issues with it, but I don't put it to use like most of our other forum members do theirs. I've only got about 800 rounds through it using .223 from different manufacturers. Never ran any steel case through it though, only brass.

I haven't seen it yet. My cousin is making up his mind if he wants it. If he doesn't, I might look at it real close. If nothing else it might be a good truck gun, or one to keep in the corner of the tractor cab.

I think I bought mine in '06. I put about 10k rounds through it, chrome-lined barrel was still shooting 1-1.5MOA. Still using some of those parts on my 3 gun rifle after the rebuild. Pretty satisfied with that.

The ones I've shot have seemed pretty nice but I haven't had a chance to run one hard yet. If the price is right I would definitely get one for a truck gun.

What specifically made the quality seem not as good?

The CMMG had a few rough spots and the casting was not as sharp as the Spikes. And the CMMG LPK I put in the CMMG lower didn't fit as good as the
Spikes LPK in the Spikes lower. Of course the CMMG could have been a bad one. But the Spikes and AmmoSurplus lowers seem to be the best that I have put together so far. I plan to try a Palmetto in the future and see how they compare to the others.

I just purchased a .308 CMMG and although I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet, the fit, finish and overall quality seem great.

Jesse, yes, they're pretty recent. A year or so.

I seem to remember someone on OSA mentioning them introducing the .308 AR, and picking one up. IIRC, the specs weren't too bad at the price, which I think was something like $14xx.

I'm not sure how new they are but it had great reviews on other sites and it seemed like a great deal. It was $1499 and only available through CDNN. It has a 18" flutted bbl, PRS, two stage trigger and comes with two pmags.

I wanted my rifle to be lighter and more mobile so I switched out the PRS for an ACS but here's what it looked like out of the box with the different stock:

That's nice! They should have put a 15" handguard on that long barrel.

Found it; here's the guy's thread. It was in Sept '11, he said new, but he could have been talking about that model being new.

Nice looking rifle.

I thought the same thing when I was looking up pictures.... looks like about half the rail length it needs!
