If any of you have a Saiga, what do you use to clean the barrel. I am not sure. Do not want to mess it up. I use Hopps 9 on all my other guns and mostly snakes for the barrels, including the Mosin. Any help is appreciated.....
What is your concern? Hoppes cleans pretty much anything and is safe on any gun metal, except Nickle plated firearms.
You using military surplus ammo? Hoppes will still clean it (as will just about anything that is water based). Hoppes and a bit of windex is all I use to clean my guns with. There may be better products but the Hoppes is cheap at about $2.75 per bottle (WalMart) and I use it liberally.
Thanks for the info. Was told they have a chrome barrel and wanted to be sure before I attempted to clean it.
PCShogun - Only have a small amount of military surplus. I only shoot non-corresive. Just keeping the surplus for hard times. How do you use the windex?

Use the Windex like water. I run some soaked patches down the barrel, and soak the bolt for a few minutes as it gets into all the small gaps I cannot reach with hoppes and a rag. The water in Windex neutralizes the corrosive salts, and the ammonia will cause the copper to tarnish and be easier to remove. You may notice your patches coming out green afterward. That's the tarnished copper.
Let it all dry, and then clean and oil like normal.
