Just watched it on Future Weapons. First thing out of the guys mouth was how streamlined the bullet was and how important that was to accuracy at long range.
I immediatly figured out he knew what he was talking about.
First thing about long range accuracy, have a bullet that is accurate.
Y'all know the rest of the drill.
The .408 stays supersonic out to 2200 yards, beyond 400 yds it has more kenetic energy than a .50 BMG.
Its supressed, but is a beast of a rifle at at least 5' long or better. Urban weapon for sure.

Watching the show, some facts about the Coriallis effect on bullets came out. At the equator your stationary target is actually moving 1000mph. So at flight time of 2 1/2 seconds at 1000 yards, some serious correction is in order.

I'm not a long range shooter, but this info has got me thinking.............

A 750gr Amax out of a 50 BMG stays supersonic for 2200-2500 meters depending on various factors. Explain to me how a 400 or whatever grain bullet out of a Cheytac which goes subsonic at the same distance is going to have more energy???

I dont like that guy, the show seems a bit over hyped to me really. But then I dont like much on tv
Actually to be fair I should say I dont like his charictor on the show I couldn't comment on him personlly.
I recon a .408 upper for a AR would be cool though no real use, just cool

I believe the chytac 408 still has the 3 shot group record with a 16" group at 2300 yards, witch is UNREAL accurate. This vs a 50bmg will be more accurate at longer distances due to the better bullet cof and slightly higher muzzle velocity(why it stays supersonic further). There are a lot of good choices for a extreme long range round currently just depends on what your wanting the bullets to do when it gets there

Chytac system as a whole is amazing. It comes with a hand held computer that u can plug all of your variances such as barametric pressure humidity temp wind ect in. It will give u ur dope. Takes a lot of the guessing and math out of the equation

I have seen several different reports on them, the main thing that Ive seen that the Cheytac has on any other weapon is the ballistic computer that comes with it. Everyone has them now, but this was one of the first I saw to actually come with the weapon and be tuned for that system, plus the Kestrel 4000 weather station thing. Thats really what makes this such an awesome tool. But it does do a lot of the leg work that snipers use to have to do on the fly. So its neat, but its kind of a gimmick.

Chris Kyle talked about some of the toys that make the job easier in his book. Still it takes a heck of a shooter to pull off those kind of shots, and good snipers know how to do the math in their head if the gimmicky stuff stops working.
