The .38 is a Combat Masterpiece that was my Dad's duty weapon when he was a cop in Inglewood, Ca.
6" barrel, target sights, really good trigger...Go Dad.

His Dad's duty weapon was the top break .44 Russian.

Those are beautiful. The top break intrigues me. Do you know what purpose the grove in the cylinder perpendicular to the cylinder stop notches serves?

Very cool, just learned about the 44 Russian on Guns and Ammo this afternoon...

Whaddya learn? I know almost nothing about this gun, except that they stopped making them in 1913.

I speculate that it would reduce drag on the cylinder and improve the trigger pull, but I just don't know.
