So two months ago I set out to find a 9mm M&P Shield for my wife's upcoming birthday. The big day isn't until September so I thought I had plenty of time. I knew that this was going to be a hot item, so I jumped onto a waiting list at one of the big gun stores in OKC...again, this was in June. Today I made a personal appearance to see where I now stood on that list. I was a bit shocked to see that I had not moved at all. Now I know that there are probably only 3-5 pistols showing up at a time, and that each salesman has their own priorities but really, not even one name checked off (perhaps one was struck through...I had to count quickly). So here is the problem. I really need that gun. I need it by Sept. 11. Unless that gun store gets 50 of them in the next 3 weeks, I'm not going to have it. I can't really buy my wife something else because I have to hang onto this cash so I don't get passed over if they actually call.

Now I'm not here to sling mud, hence naming no names, but I have to think that perhaps there is a list other than "the list". I am also wagering that there are plenty of these things sitting in gun safes around Oklahoma.

So, any suggestions on where I may be able to pick one of these up in the next few weeks? I know I could probably troll the web and find one for a grand...but i'd rather not. I don't mind paying a little extra but I have my limits.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was on a list one time for a particular gun, waited and waited for the call. Stopped in one day and asked are you guys ever going to get some of these in?

We have some in stock now and have off and on for awhile now.

How come I didn't get called? Oh we never look at that list.

Waiting lists may not be the way to go unless you know the place will check and honor it.

My wife says my full size M&P is too big for her hand, so when I was at H&H picking up some Hudsons, she handled the blue gun for the Shield and demanded I her a real one as soon as I can. I told her that our current financial situation did not dictate that being a good idea, but she said she didn't care. Maybe I will try to get her one next year or for Christmas. Love her enthusiasm about it though. She then told me that she wanted it "painted" red so that the last color any threat would see would be the color he/she would bleed. I convinced her that a red holster would be better...gotta love the wife.

last time I was in gene sears in el reno he had some in stock, it would be worth the phone call

Yup they are really really hard to find right now, and the ones that are out there on armslist and gunbroker are ridiculously priced. Who did you talk with at SSP if you don't mind my asking? They have been good to me everytime I have called with an outlandish request to find a gun that is not all that readily available.

I'd sell ya mine but the fact is my wife likes it too much for me to sell it, she has claimed it for her CCW when she finally gets her license.

Gallaryofguns.com's Gun Genie has some compact M&P 9mm's, but not sure if they're the shield model or not. Not really familiar with Smith's.

Heartland Outdoor in Edmond might have one too... Last time I was in there they had a ton of M&P's under the counter.
