Chamber New Barrel

Ok finally got to chat with McGowen about making an AR barrel YIPPIE just going to have them spin me a blank and I'll chamber and all the other goodies BUT I'm having a delima with what chamber to use! do I want to use 223, 223 Wylde, or just go 5.56? I really despise trimming brass so I'm just thinking go with the 5.56 chamber, what are your thoughts fella's. Later,

Hey amigo I gotst me one of them fancy 5.56X45 reamers and have used it to open up several .223 barrels, for what we do you will never "see" the benifit of any fancy type chamber hybrid, and if you really dig into it you will find a "wylde" chamber is almost a 5.56 chamber. I have had several of the DPMS barrels that I reamed...which isn't very much as the difference between all these is really in the throat, 5.56 and they shot well under 1 M.O.A.....anyway I gotst it if you wantst to use it. Kirt my rifle is Wilde sometimes unfired rounds eject easily sometimes they don't.
It is definitely the full length resized brass that causes the problem if I pull two random casings that were resized in the same batch one may eject easily the other might require a tug I cannot tell a difference with the calibers. All ammo & casings will easily feed & eject out of my 5.56 AR. At 3 mils right I would drop the mag and fire my last round at the last target. Brought remaining ammo home it easily fed in mine & a friends AR.
Now I small size base all ammo.
I have had some great groups but I would not go wylde again might be just my Barrel I have probably shot at least 1800 rds through it.

Just wanted to add the bolt has always chambered the rounds easily & every shot fired has ejected I have never had a FTE.

I've had the same issue. In every case I found the shoulder wasn't bumped quite far enough. Do you have a case gage?

Corey, are you using a headspace gauge of any kind when setting up your dies? You need to make sure you're getting at least 2-3 thousandths of shoulder setback on a case fired from that rifle when resizing. I personally prefer the Hornady model that slips onto your calipers.

Is your barrel from Satern/Loki by chance? I have a very nice 20" satern heavy profile barrel that needs a bit of attention when prepping cases for.

Yeah, that's (most likely) not the chamber's fault, especially if factory ammo works fine. I use an RBCS Precision Mic when I'm setting up my dies and check every 100th round for headspace, powder charge, & OAL when I'm loading. I try to get all my dies set up to bump the shoulder .005 under max.

Wylde is my favorite chamber, but Kurt's right, for what we do you'll never notice the difference!

I come from the precision rifle realm of shooting so this 1 MOA is close enough is just really odd but I think I'm catching on LOL got the 308 out of the safe the other day and remembered what precision shooting and actual sub MOA was so I feel much better. I'm thinking less brass prep with the amount of ammo we go thru is going to save me some headaches in the long run, everything said and done 3-gun is not so much about small sub MOA rifles but for the most part put a bullet on the target! come on really a 10" plate at 300 yards MOA is 3" that just says that a 2 MOA rifle is plenty accurate just have to get that thru my sub MOA head! I sure hope things work for me better tomorrow, I SO need to get more time with my rifle some reason I've really been sucking it up! much as I hate to admit I think the eyes are getting worse.
