Carrygun Exchange Challenge

If you guys want to pair up yourselves, that's fine. My only concern is that someone who has never or rarely shot a cocked and locked gun shouldn't learn how to operate if safely after the timer goes off.

Swapping one STI for another seems a bit superfluous, but do it if you wish.

I'd prefer to swap CARRYGUNS instead of Raceguns, but I'll leave that up to you folks.

Using Benjamin again as an example, he once expressed a willingness (as opposed to desire...) to shoot a snubby ar a match. I'd shoot his brand spanking new high dollar 6" STI, he'd shoot my $85 Charter Arms .38 snub.....but remember, YOU will shoot the gun you select for the swap, also.

The more I ponder it., the more I want to do the swap on a single night on truly identical stages. No worries about the other guy not showing up at the second one. If he doesn't, you'd simply pair up with someone else.

The impetus for the idea is if you went to visit a friend, but didn't take your own gun. He's a good friend, so he'd arm you with one of his. Or, you need a gun and happen across one youve never seen before. A different take on the "battlefield pickup" scenario that many folks like. (or say they do!)

Can you make it work for you from the very first shot?
 
I like doing the swap on the same night.
I never know from one week to the next if i will be in town.
I carry a S&W M&P 40 pro stock off the shelf. who wants to swap with me?
 
I Like the same night idea better as well.

I will swap either a Glock 27, or an XDM 3.8 in .40. If anyone is interested.
Or I will just put my name in the hat and take what gets drawn.
 
This sounds like fun to me so here are a few thoughts on how to make it work.

Run stages 1-2 as you normally would.
Setup stages 3-4 as normal but purposely have half of stages 3-4 ready to be turned into stages 5-6. Stages 5-6 would be two short courses with 15 or less rounds. Who wants to watch Ben squared do 4 mag changes on a snubby on the clock for his first time so keep the round count somewhat smaller. It also saves on time.

Don't allow people to shoot a second gun to speed the match up for the additional stages at the end. I know this is going to cut into the profits but it might be worth it.

I agree that it might not be a good idea for me to stand there trying to reload a revo when im used to a semi. ppl might think.. does he even know he's on the clock lol

someone would have to train me how to reload without a magwell???

That'd be a real time killer, as I've found out. What we'd do would be similar to what we did in October. By changing shooting boxes, a very different challenge was presented without moving/changing targets. Those participating in the swap would simply shoot the stage as originally set up. Everyone else would shoot the new arrangement.

I would! Most folks load snubbies with speedloaders or speedstrips, so it'd be interesting to see this ground breaking technique. ;)

The round count would be agreeable to the various capacities, so Shooter "B" with the snub would have the same targets/round count as Shooter "A" had the first time thru with the same snubby.

It all depends on turnout. If you're NOT swapping out and there are less than 40 entries, then there's no problem shooting a second gun. BUT, if you're participating in the swap, you can only swap With ONE person and no Second Gun Shoot for you.

I'd like everyone to partner up, but I'll be available in case there's an odd number.

I have an accurate iron glock 34
A factory glock 17
A kahr pm9 
A kimber custom II 
And a ruger old model black hawk, don't think you want that lol. 
The glocks are the only ones I have enough mags for a match but if you choose one of the others soon I can prolly get more for them.

3 mags total (1 in gun, 2 reloads) are all you need for the low capacity guns.

Or two speedloaders or speed strips for a revolver.
 
Instead of listing what you have to swap, how about listing what type of guns YOU are competent with? Otherwise, it misses most of the point of the Challenge. That said, you folks can do this any way you want, but a bit of surprise adds to the challenge.

For example:

I am comfortable shooting: DA revolvers, SA revolvers, cocked and locked, striker fired, and DA/SA semi autos. Calibers from .22 to .44

Will NOT shoot airweight magnums with full power loads.

Tell me what you're comfortable with and I'll see what I got.....but you won't know what it is until Match time when you see it on my belt.

Picked up my 2011 yesterday and I need a holster and 3 mag holders....

How did you know I was going to bring my 12oz S&W 340SC 357 just for you? (It only hurts when you pull the trigger)

Do you need the gun just to be sure on fit? (2011 Full frame not the Smith)

Another question???? What about holster swap as the swap gun probably will not fit yours? Shoot from the ready????

Ken, I unplugged my phone. I should probably plug it back in! Your number is on Uverse ID, so I'll call you tonight if that's ok.

Holsters, mags and pouches would be swapped when possible. If its not, then low ready and pull mags from pockets. But it'd be better to have gear the other person can use.

Along these lines, either provide the ammo for the other person to use in your gun, or mutually agree on the ammo in advance.
 
seems like factory ammo would be the way to go, as far as shooting thier reloads, well.... let's just say I remember what my ammo was like when I first started handloading! I can correct a malfunction now like a pro! lol
