So I have a child due in April and it will be our first, my wife and I both carry, I generally carry at home up until bed time, but sometimes I unholster and leave it on nightstand or coffee table while watching tv or what not, obviously I won't be able to do this anymore. We want something with quick access but something that can't be screwed up in a tight situation(such as a cheap finger scanner etc) any recommendations?

Most cheap bedside safes are. Well cheap. Fas1 safes are decent quality with a decent lock http://www.fas1safe.com/

Never said I wanted cheap. So all ideas open, as far as being lazy goes, thats why I want the safe, so I have somewhere to put it when it is not equipped, but I still want to be able to get it quickly and in a daze if need be.

I like that FAS, Really like the mechanical function and optional key access, probably the best one I have seen so far, although I wish it didnt open so slow, or maybe thats just the way it looks in video?

I bought a Fort Knox Pistol Box (the one with the lid on top) to keep bedside and make sure the kid couldn't gain unauthorized access to my bedside pistol. It's made with 10 gauge steel and 3/16" steel on the lid. Has a Simplex lock and a gas strut to assist with raising the lid. The lock is super reliable and I can get pistol in hand within 5 seconds starting laying down. I did a lot of research and decided on it as it's a good balance of security, reliability and ease of access. You can find several reviews online so I won't go into too much detail. This was the best price I could find when I ordered at $195 with free shipping. http://www.gunsafesamerica.com/fort-knox-pistol-box-free-shipping/

It's not that slow, and you can grab and lift the lid up.

Never really trusted the gun vault style safes. When my kids were little I decided to unload and put up the .357 magnum revolver and kept a loaded 1911 .45 stored in condition 3 by the bed. Reason being that it would be several years before they could chamber a round and make it go boom. My daughter is 29 now and still doesn't thik she can manipulate a 1911 so I guess I was right.

No matter what you do, you CANNOT get complacent. Ever...

Oh don't worry, I plan on teaching the kids all about it, I just don't need a curious three year old coming in while I am asleep and grabbing the gun off my night stand or out of my wifes purse while im snoring away and sleeping with a holster probably wouldn't be the most practical thing to do. I would prefer to keep the weapon loaded, as that is how I carry it, and the less manipulation I do over the course of the day, the less chance for the extractor to set the primer off which apparently can happen in striker fire even though ive never heard anyone having that issue, but it seems to be the reason they tell you not to catch an ejecting round or have your hand over the ejection port.

Micah and Luke don't go to bed. They go into priorities of work. After completing their sector sketches and refining their indirect fires plan, they go into 33% security before stand-to at BMNT-45 minutes.

Lol at Josh.

The first year, keep it in a holster and up high if not in the safe or on your body. My daughter is 19 months so I have been looking into the same options.

There is no perfect solution once they can climb and run around. Locked up is slow in an emergency and out is potentially harmful to the kiddo.

Let me know what you end up getting.

I have a Barska brand fingerprint scanner safe. It works EVERY time. You can store all your fingers and other people's too.I can't remember for sure how many it will store but it's a lot.
