Carry Gun Match - Heartland Outdoors 3-18-12

How did Mike win two certificates?

(I know someone is wondering)

Because he was eligible for one because he shot from concealment, and then was eligible along with everyone else.

$100 is Heartland Gift Certificates ain't a bad haul!

couple of things.
thx to mike and shannon for helping with the squads, especially helping when i brought other squad members over!!
One of the 1st time shooters won 50 dollar gift certificate, where else can you spend 20, get 50 back and shoot a match!!!
Props to shannon shooting the match clean, very impressive considering the gun and the stages!!

What bothers me more than anything else (I know you will agree Mike) is that out of 40-something shooters, only 8 shot from concealment. I would imagine even less left that night actually wearing the gun that they shot, or ANY gun for that matter.

This is a carry gun match and is meant to promote practice with your carry gun. However, that practice doesn't mean anything if you dont carry the damn thing!

Rant over. Sorry if I am starting to sound like Mike Cox

I would love to shoot concealed;-) and if it makes you feel better ill carry out the door(id do this anyway and all the way to my desk to clean it) I really need the practice drawing from concealment I always shoot my carry gun.

Also isn't it the point to not let people see your carry gun.

since i don't carry, i am going to punch the targets at the next match!!!! :)

This match is a lot of fun. This one was the first I've been able to make in a while. Shooting from concealment in a real eye opener and everyone who has a SDA permit should shoot this way a couple of times.

Next time I'm going to have my speedloaders working better, they are killing me! And I might just shoot the whole match with full house magnums. >:D

But I don't know, that little dose of fun already has me wanting a .44 magnum snubbie and I'm not really sure whether that's a good thing or not. I may have acquired another affliction. :41:

You pick up hitch hikers AND you don't carry? Watch for me hitching a ride next payday on your way home from the bank.

Yep, unloaded mine in the car and reloaded it when I climbed back in. Just like I have at every carry gun match I've attended. You can tell by the hands held up when David asked who carries a snub. Only 3 were man enough to actually shoot it last night. And....all 3 of us got beat by a girl. Who else wants to get beat by a girl at the next match? I load the ammo we shoot and I'm thinking hers might have a few high primers next time. :). Come on, anyone can shoot a big gun from a competition holster at the close range this match has, man or woman up and shoot a carry gun from concealment. If you want to try mine, I've got a Kahr PM9 or a spare snub, you can bring factory 9mm or 38 special ammo or shoot my reloads for my actual cost. I know I rant about it but that really is why David started this match. Let's take advantage of the opportunity to get good practice time with our carry guns. Who's in the next match?

Im down, the only reason I havent shot mine is the 130gr FMJs out of the 637 put my hand in the hospital...maybe Im a bit sensitive but Id rather not go home wishing I hadnt shot at all. So Pstmstr if youll let me get some 38s and a couple speed loaders I all in. I have 1 HKS speed loader, but no pouches, I dont really carry extra rounds on me when I carry the 38. If 5 aint enough then Im running to the truck for a bigger gun, just saying...So let me know, Im down for an all concealed snubby match!

I need a smaller carry gun but finances don't allow for one yet. But if I do end up purchasing it ill shoot it too. So for now ill shoot my big carry gun.

Kahr PM40 from pocket holster ... can't do that yet because I'm still new to the match (3 total).

Business suit from ankle holster ... might be doable with some older pants / no jacket.

I should have my IWB holster (G26) from David before the next match and will shoot that from under a t-shirt.

As a matter of interest, I shot this match from IWB concealment, using my snazzy new holster design. I made the total of CC shooters 9, but I declare myself ineligible for any certificates.

I also shot a gun I've not shot for a very long time, and never with the laser on it, but then, I have not carried this gun before, either. Except for the laser, it's box-stock.

I told Mike I'd shoot snubby if no one else did, but since several folks said they would, I decided to try out my possible new carry gun instead. I'm not a snubby toter, so it made more sense for me to do that. (we will update DRT scoring for the next match)

I understand that some people can only shoot this match, so I created "Other" division to accommodate them, but I don't want that division to define this match.

While I'll never require concealment for a regular match, I encourage those that carry concealed to shoot their carry gun and holster from concealment at least a couple times a year.

Mike does and won TWO certificates last night as a result. First, he had a one-in-eight chance, followed by a one-in-fifty chance.

I'm still waiting on my concealed carry license to show up in the mail. I've only been a gun owner and shooter since mid December. Looking forward to carrying, just have to decide what to carry.

This would be a great "new topic" in the CCW Forum. Why don't you start a new thread and see what kind of advice you can round up? There are some highly qualified trainers and personnel available that are always willing to share
