Canik 55 Stingray 9mm

After owning this gun for about 3 months now I finally got a chance to shoot it. After receiving it I wasn't that impressed with it due it being heavy(5.0) like a Hi-Point which we know is garbage. The reviews were great so for the price I "pulled the trigger". I have to say I am amazed at this gun, for the price. I wish it was lighter but the weapon was very accurate and not once did it jam. I wish I could have said the same for my brand new S&W M&P full size 9mm that I also shot for the first time today. I think that was a magazine issue however. The slide slides back and forth from within the body which is different. The ergo of the weapon is great as well as utilizing the mag release and slide release. Not a large weapon but not a small weapon either. I was on the fence about the TP9 but think I will be buying that one sooner than later. -Shane

Just curious is your opinion of Hi-Point based on actually owning and shooting one. I have had a 9mm pistol and carbine, and a S&W 40 pistol and carbine. Never had an issue with any of them. Went bang every time and accurate. Nice thing about the pistol great truck of fishing gun, as it did not matter if it got banged up.

Owned a 45 HI-Point that cost about $200 new. Worst ergo of a gun I have ever placed in my hand. I had so scared it was going to blow up in my face and kill me 10 times over. NO THANK YOU

I don't mind your having an opinion about Hi Point firearms but you are grossly incorrect. They are rather ungainly looking and simply made(blow back operation) but they are good guns, both the rifles and the pistols. Bemiller Manufacturing, the manufacturer of Hi Point firearms, has the absolute BEST customer service in the firearms business.
Don't judge something unless you have realistically and fairly tried it.

How can you call someone's OPINION "grossly incorrect?"

They might have the best customer service in the biz (they don't), but they're still garbage. Again, this is my OPINION. You might love them, but you cannot call someone's OPINION incorrect.

I would rather have 1 M&P pistol over 20 hi-points.

After being in the Military 22 years and having been a Small Arms Instructor....I'm entitled to my opinion and will go as far as to say it is a rather educated one. You pay for what you get, Hi-Point sucks IMO but if YOU like them by all means it's a free world. I don't see any cops or any Military carrying them. Good customer service? I have never had contact customer service with my Beretta/Desert Eagle/Ivor Johnson/M&Ps/Mossberg. Guess that would be an important feature if the gun brakes a lot.

I appreciate the review of the Canik, I too had been looking at them but knew nothing of them, and so have not ordered one.

I DO own a hi-point. Never had a problem with it. Its ugly, its heavy, its cheap, its accurate. I have not jammed it yet. I purchased it to teach my wife to shoot. If she dropped it, oh well, its not an expensive, fancy firearm so scratches do not matter on it. I like the fact that when I run out of rounds for it, I can throw this at the bad guy and it will be just as deadly. They are straight blow back guns. The slide is a heavy chuck of iron sitting on top of a polymer frame. That's the entire recoil system for this gun.

I had seen earlier .45 versions of the Hi-point and they DID jam. My understanding is that Hi-point found the problem and fixed it in later versions. That said, If I had the money, I would buy something with a decocker, better ergonomics, less weight, and a better design for safety and operation. However, if this is what you have, it works and beats chucking rocks at the bad guy. I have put about 600 rounds through her CF-380 without issue.

But enough on the Hi-point, this was a Canik thread.

I know these are made in Turkey, did it feel 'well built' or did it have slop in it?
Did the weight help mitigate the recoil, did it help hold the sights on target for follow up shots?
The Beretta 92fs is too big even for my meaty hand. How accessible was the safety and slide release with one handed operation?
Was the holster that comes with it worth anything?

It actually felt better in terms of functionality than my S&W M&P. I honestly and I think I mentioned it wasn't expected to love it as much. The weight of the weapon threw me off but coming from a HI-Point I bet it weighs less! I do feel it is more ergo than my Beretta 92FS which I do love. I didn't notice a terrible recoil but I would assume a heavier weapon would do just that. You can find one for about $300. I'm left handed but on this weapon I can utilize the right side safety and slide release. Being use to the 92 I have learned to take the safety off as I draw with the opposite hand and use my left pointer to mag release. Having lefty features was the main selling point for me as well as the price. After I you tubed this weapon with all the feedback I was eager to get my hands on it. I like how the slide rides within the body. I now want the Canik TP9
