I came here because the majority of the members on this board are shooters. Real ones. Not the armchair-Pattons that seem to populate other boards. I've shot with a number of you and will again when I can. You guys seem to be more about doing and less about talking. I've followed links people have sent me and dug up info of my own. I've sent emails to Senators, Congressmen, The White House and the NRA. I plan on joinging the NRA next week. I plan on donating what I can, where I can. It feels like it's not enough. You guys are smart. Someone has to know more. There has to be more I can do. It seems all I'm doing is talking to air.

I hear other people talking. they say "I don't think that'll pass" or "If they pass that...". I hear people say "They can have my guns, bullets fist!" and I hate it. It misrepresents us. It feels like people aren't taking this seriously. Then there's the media. They're shouting over our 1A rights with theirs. Peirs Morgan browbeats his guests and insults them on ntaional TV. If I'm correct, haven't 3 Gun Nation, American Guns and Sons Of Guns all been taken off the air? Liberals drown facts with a din of falsehood and vilify gun owners for acts committed by madmen and criminals. They stand on the graves of children to propegate lies and push an agenda, which is abhorrent to me. They make us out to be conspiracy-theory-spewing rednecks with a violence fetish. None of which is actually a viable solution in my eyes.

What else can be done? Do we protest? Do we spam social media (YouTube, Facebook and Twitter)? Do we do our own version of Occupy Wall Street but in The Capital? How do we yell above the crowd and shout "ENOUGH!" and be heard? We can't lie or twist facts. That makes us the same as them. We can't blame video games or the kind of music someone listens to. We need to come up with a solution. I gotta say, I'm concerned and a little desperate to solve this without these people getting their damned gun ban. Who was it that said "If you diminish one right, you diminish them all."? This is not the direction I want this country to go in!

Would anyone be against getting together and trying to come up with a plan or solution?

EDIT: if this is the wrong forum for this, please move it.

God knows if we had a peaceful protest we couldn't do it armed openly or concealled as they would say we were not having a peaceful protest. As i would more than likely have to disarm (give up my 2nd amendment rights) to exercise my freedom of speech (use my 1st amendment right) through a peaceful protest.it seems to have one freedom I may have to give up another or ask their permission as to which way I can have my freedom of speech and my right to bear arms. As they dont respect me or my rights this doesnt seem like a good idea to ask which way is PC for them. but your right this whole let them try to take my guns is not the answer either. staying quiet in your house and ignoring the elephant in the room by saying it wont happen wont make it go away either. I think the whole let them come to my house thing is the worst thing you can do. It makes you seem like your first resort is violence when it should be the last resort and it allows the anti gun groups to seperate us and disarm us or at least demonize us. United we stand, divided we fall.

Something that I'd like to see would be for the various factions in the gun owning community to reach out to one another. There seems to be a lot of "**** Y'ALL, GOT MINE!!!!" attitude. The Fudds just want their hunting rifle, bird gun, and revolvers. I know that in the competition shooting community there's a lot of disdain for the tactical crowd. I would like to see the different groups be more inclined to stand up for one another. Explain that a 30-06 deer rifle is also a HIGH POWERED SNIPER RIFLE when the next moral panic happens.

The most important thing is to be a good ambassador for gun ownership. The more people with positive feelings about guns and gun owners, the less we will have to go through PMAG shortages. Try to keep the MOLON LABE VOTE FROM THE ROOFTOPS stuff to a minimum. If you know someone who doesn't shoot, take him shooting. Blowing 20 rounds of cheap Tula out of my AR has made true believers out of people.

Invite non-shooters to the range. Join the NRA (Never thought I'd type or say such a thing out loud). Join the GOA. Join JPFO. Volunteer as an Appleseed Instructor. Take to social media (FB, Twitter, etc.) and try to convince people using a coherent and fact-based argument. Participate in a rally like the one you were talking about. Right now there's one being floated for every State capitol on February 8th. I agree that the "voting from the rooftops" language be kept out of the dialogue. It's all about controlling the language and make no mistake, folks: We're losing that part of the fight. Of course as a good friend of mine is prone to say: "What do I know? I'm just a guy."

Oh, man! I wish i had seen this over the weekend when I logged in. I'd have taken time off from work for whatever rally I could have gotten to.

Come to Tulsa on the 19th. There is a registration event being held for public school employees to sign up for free SDA, active shooter, and other training to equip them with options on defending themselves and their students should we have a shooting here. Even if you're not a teacher, the media will be there and if we pack the house to show support for the program, it will send a clear message to the public and our legislators.

If you want to do something get more non gun owners to spend their money " the more money the better" on firearms that will be on the proposed ban. When it becomes their problem you will see how quickly they suddenly care about it.

Not only do YOU need to join the NRA, sign up your kids for a junior membership for $15. Sign up your wife or girlfriend for $10. Talk to anyone you can think of even remotely interested in firearms and explain to them that if they value their rights they should join the NRA and write their reps. It's contagious and I think it's working. I believe when the argument really heats up that the NRA will realease the numbers on the explosion in their membership numbers. That alone can send a huge signal to congress. And finally I think our last defense is the House of Representatives. There are seats out their on both sides of the aisle that are not safe. We need to identify who those people are and make it clear this will be their last session in Congress if they vote for ANY kind of ban! People have been complacent over the past four years. If we don't break this push for gun control, I fear the floodgates will open.
