Several years ago, I shot a buck at 340yds in a moderate rainstorm. Just as I pulled the trigger on the .270, I remember wondering what effect rain would have on a traveling bullet?
The buck is mounted on my wall, so it didnt seem to have that much effect. Anybody have further info?

The bench rest boys have studied it to some extent, there is SOME dispersive effect at their extreme accuracy levels. At reasonable ranges with most fire arms it is not measurable.

If your shooting the little high velocity guys like my 17 Rem you'll see a grey puff! but so will grass, p-dogs, about anything that gets in the way.

The heavier bullets made for hunting normally rain will have little effect or at least enough effect to notice by most folks, the BR guys well it's a different story they tend to be a touch more picky than most hunters LOL

I have seen 22-250 bullets puff but nothing like the 17 Rem, if it's raining the 17 stays home. Later,

With the recoil of the .270, I doubt I'd be able to watch the bullet trace through the scope.
I hadn't considered the .22-250 with a varmint round. They are extremely fragile. I remember when I first got it, shooting into a milk jug of water with a Hornady 40 grain VMax at 4150fps.
Of course the jug exploded, but you could still make out where the bullet entered, and the back of the jug looked like it had been hit by .22LR bird shot. The bullet totally disintegrated.
