Going to a CWP class in 2 weeks, don't have a gun yet, friend offered to lend me one of his. He will not be with me. Is this legal?

Most classes would prefer you use what you intend to carry but you'll be fine.

If you are concerned about the loan buy it from him for a dollar and sell it back for a dollar.

Ok, thanks. I just wondered, with all the paperwork one needs to purchase a firearm, how someone could just give you one without someone having an issue with it. I'm not familiar at all with the laws regarding the sale of firearms, only those concerning CC. Thanks again.

There is no paperwork required for buying or selling a gun in SC and many other states. If you buy from a FFL dealer (essentially any business selling firearms), you are required to fill out paperwork allowing the dealer to run an FBI background check on you. Unless you have a CWP, then there's no paperwork except the bill of sale.
It's not like buying a car, where there is this nasty thing called REGISTRATION.

One big exception: certain types of firearms which require a tax stamp (full auto, supressed, short barrelled rifle, etc), but anyone who has gone through the process to own these would have the sense not to loan you one for a CWP class. I think they would be in more trouble than you!

The responses are making a simple assumption, that by asking the question, you are indeed legally entitled to POSSESS a pistol...
There are restrictions on your ability to POSSESS a firearm, specifically a pistol.
Basically, if you are over 18, have the firearm with the owner's consent, not a convicted felon, or under a restraining order, convicted of domestic violence, etc etc.....
Purchasing requirements(all that paperwork) are slightly different than possession elgibility. When you go to by one, you will fill out paperwork, and a background check will be performed. If you purchase AFTER the CWP class, your CWP background check and License will vouch for your eligibility.

Buying from an in-state private owner, face to face sales are not subject to sales throug a dealer. Both must be residents of SC, and the buyer assumes responsibility for illegal posession if they are not eligible to own/possess a firearm.
They must be in-state, its recommended to see some identification to confirm.
A private -party gun from out of state will need to be purchased through an FFL(shipped to your local FFL).
You can purchase long guns through border states FFL dealer.
